The Indian cricketer Ajinkya Rahane’s career was considered over before the IPL 2023 as he was going through a bad form and was dropped from the Indian team after a series of poor performances. However, the IPL team Chennai Super Kings surprised everyone by buying him in the auctions and then Rahane shocked everyone by performing exceptionally well and by playing an important role in CSK’s IPL 2023 win.

Ajinkya Rahane performed well in the domestic level too but his performance in the IPL 2023 and injuries to cricketers KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer paved way for Rahane’s return in the Indian team for the WTC final. Though team India lost the WTC final to Australia yet Ajinkya Rahane played a valiant knock of 89 runs in the first innings and proved that the Indian team can still depend on him.

As a result, the selectors not only selected him for the West Indies tour but they also made him the vice-captain of the team. However, there are few who are not happy with Rahane being appointed as the vice-captain because with this, the team loses the chance to groom a young cricketer as the future captain.

Recently, Jinx who is 35 yrs old got a little irritated during a press conference when a reporter talked about his age. Ajinkya Rahane asks the reporter as to what he means by at this age, he is still young and there is a lot of cricket left in him.

He further says that he scored runs in the IPL and domestic as well and he is pretty confident about his batting. He adds that he has worked a lot on his fitness in the last 1.5 years and he is enjoying the game. Rahane also says that he is not thinking much about the future and every match is quite important, both for him personally and for the team as well.

The senior Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara has been dropped from the team and India will have a new batter coming at number 3 after a long time. The two candidates for playing at number 3 are Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashavi Jaiswal and when Rahane is asked who will bat at number 3, he says that though he doesn’t know which cricketer will play at number 3 yet he adds that it will be a great opportunity for that cricketer.

Ajinkya Rahane has also made it clear that the Indian team is not taking West Indies lightly despite the fact that they have failed in qualifying for the World Cup. He says that West Indies has a great record while playing test cricket at home and the Indian team will focus on their own strengths and play good game of cricket.

The first test match will be played from tomorrow (12 July 2023) at Windsor Park Dominica.
