Blind Movie Review- The Crime Thriller Awfully Fell Short at both Crime and Thrill

Sonam Kapoor Ahuja returns after a long break of four years with a crime thriller, which is a remake of the Korean film released in 2011 with the same name. However, remakes have a history of disappointing the audience. They are hardly able to match the original, and almost impossible to surpass it. Some of the examples of failed experiments to remake Korean Films are Ek Villain (I Saw the Devil), Radhe (The Outlaws) and Singh is Billing (My Wife is a Gangster 3).

Blind movie was released on Jio Cinema and is available for free streaming. Now, the question is- how good is the movie and is it worth watching? Read out Blind Movie Review to find about it, as we discuss several aspects of the movie like its plot, characters, cinematography and other elements.

Blind Movie Review:

Movies focused on cat-and-mouse chase have a distinct following- and Blind tried to build a similar impact with its trailer. The crime thriller heightened people’s expectations with a different approach to crime movies.

A serial killer is on the loose on the streets of Glasgow- and his targets are particularly women. But here is the real twist- he is chased by a blind woman who is convinced to catch him. Sonam Kapoor plays the role of Gia Singh, a cop in Glasgow, Scotland who lost her eyesight in an accident along with the death of someone very close to her. Now, she lives a monotonous life with her dog as she tries to cope up with everything that has happened to her- until she comes across a taxi driver who is seemingly hiding something in his car, possibly a body.

Thus begins the chase that forms the central plot of this movie as Gia tries to solve the puzzle of the serial killer and sex predator. Blind indeed had an amazing concept but it failed at its execution.

The movie begins at a slow pace slowly crafting the premise but just when you expect it to speed up, it will leave you entirely disappointed. A crime thriller with a pacing that does not meet the expectations of the viewers has a very little else to offer.

It goes on for two hours with no thrills or intensity scrapping the plot off of its suspense. It is incredibly dark and gloomy, no doubt about it, especially in the scenes where the killer is shown torturing women, but it is also very predictable. There is nothing you are waiting for- you know what is exactly going to happen- which leaves little to captivate the audiences.

Another aspect that deeply affected the movie was a lack of background for the killer. Why is the killer hell bent on hurting and torturing women? Was he abused as a child? Or is there a case of sexual frustration with the killer making him a sex predator? Was he perhaps bullied as a teenager? It is astonishing how the important details were overlooked by the makers. If you do not give a background story to the characters, they appear shallow entities to the audiences and severely lack that emotional depth.

This is why Purab Kohli’s role was not executed with the depth that would have come if the makers joined a back story. Vinay Pathak gives a better performance.

Blind falls short at several places however the cinematography is praiseworthy. Sequences like the gloomy place where the killer keeps his hostages and an orphanage where Gia hides show vintage montages that are quite spectacular. Gairik Sarkar did a good job overall. The music composer also did a wonderful job.

If you are on a marathon to consume content, Blind can be one of the movies you watch to pass time, but if you have to especially make time for it- it may not be the best option for you because the movie is somewhat worth watching- but only once. In case you are a fan of Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, then this movie might be a good watch since the actor gave a satisfactory performance.

Concluding Blind Movie Review:

A thing that Blind movie lacks right from the beginning is a vision. It is a crime thriller without all the elements it is supposed to offer- suspense, climax, pace and background story. With a little to offer, Blind gives no incentive to the viewers to watch it for the next 2 hours especially in the world where movies can be replaced in mere seconds. In such a competitive domain, the prime focus on filmmakers should be on an intriguing plot.
