Harmanpreet Should Be More Careful In Showing Disagreement & Selection Of Words, Says Anjum Chopra

The Indian women cricket team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur is under criticism for her behaviour in the third and the final ODI against Bangladesh which ended in a tie because of which the series also ended in a draw (1-1).

The Indian women team got bundled out for 225 runs in 49.3 overs while chasing a target of 226 runs and Harmanpreet Kaur is the talk of the town as she broke the stumps after she was given lbw out by the umpires. Later on during the match presentation, she not just slammed the umpiring but also stated that the next time when they come to Bangladesh, they would be prepared for poor umpiring.

If this was not enough, when the skippers of both the teams were lifting the trophy, Harmanpreet Kaur irked her Bangladeshi counterpart Nigar Sultana when the former asked the umpires to also join in lifting the trophy. After this, Nigar Sultana decided to walk away with her team. While the Indian players are supporting their skipper, many former cricketers are not happy with the manner in which Harmanpreet Kaur behaved.

Bangladesh-W captain & her team left the photo session after Indian-W captain Harmanpreet Kaur told them,
-“Why you are only here? You haven't tied the match. The umpires did it for you. Call them up! We better have photo with them as well.”

The former Indian woman cricketer Anjum Chopra who played 12 test matches, 127 ODIs and 18 T20Is for the country and has also served as the skipper of the team was also not happy with Harmanpreet Kaur. Anjum felt that Harmanpreet should have restrained from speaking against the umpiring during the presentation as there are other better ways to register dissatisfaction. In addition, Anjum was not happy with Harmanpreet’s selection of words as well.

While talking about Harmanpreet Kaur’s dismissal, Anjum Chopra stated that as there was no snickometer and ball-tracking which made it a little difficult to judge and the Indian team may not have been happy with few decisions going against them but still going in public and talking against umpiring was not the right thing to do. Anjum Chopra adds that when Harmanpreet Kaur will get calm, then she will also feel that she has not behaved in the right manner.

The International Cricket Council has also taken action against Harmanpreet Kaur as they have deducted 75 percent of her match fees and have also given her three demerit points.

That was certainly not a good example that has been set by Harmanpreet Kaur in view of the fact that she is an inspiration for many young and aspiring women cricketers.
