Congress Moves No-Confidence Motion Against PM Modi’s Govt, Here’s All You Need To Know About It
The violence in Manipur has certainly shocked the whole country especially the videos in which some men are seen violating the modesty of two women by parading them naked. Not just this, it is being said that one of them was gang-raped also. The situation in the north-eastern state is not good for quite some time now but mainstream media was not giving it much importance till the video related to the incident mentioned above went viral.
The opposition political parties are demanding a statement by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard in both the houses but they were not getting any confirmation in this regard so now the political alliance of 26 political parties – I.N.D.I.A has chosen to use the no-confidence motion as a tool to force the government and PM Modi to discuss the Manipur violence issue.
On behalf of I.N.D.I.A, Congress MP from Kaliabor, Assam, Gaurav Gogoi has moved the no-confidence motion against PM Modi-led government and it has been accepted by Om Birla who has stated that the date and time will be informed only after having a discussion with all the political parties.
Let us talk a little about the no-confidence motion – It is a motion by the opposition to make the government prove its majority on the floor of the house, it can be moved in Lok Sabha only. Any member of the parliament can move this motion but he should have support of other 50 MPs and discussion on this motion starts only after the speaker accepts it and chooses date and time after talking to all the parties.
This gives a chance to opposition to question the government on various issues and after discussion, voting takes place. If the existing government fails in proving their majority, then the PM and his cabinet of ministers have to resign otherwise they can function as earlier.
Talking about the current situation, BJP-led alliance, NDA has 301 MPs in Lok Sabha which means that they have clear majority in the house and there is nothing to worry for the current government.
