Key Moments from Jawan Trailer: Another Blockbuster by Shah Rukh Khan?

“Who am I? What am I? I do not know… A promise made to a mother, or a purpose unfinished. Am I good, or bad; a blessing, or a curse? Ask yourself. Because I am you, for better or for worse.” The Jawan trailer begins with this dialogue and sets the tone for the entire 172 seconds. You are left perplexed as the sequence shows several different avatars of Shah Rukh Khan’s character. 

The trailer itself is action-fuelled giving us a glimpse into its intense thrill but completely veiling the plot. Women cladded in white sarees hold a child, people run hysterically in an underground station, a village is attacked by armed people, cars are chasing each other- Jawan has a lot of things going on. 

As Jawan trailer drops, it soon becomes No.1 in the trending list. 

Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Sanya Malhotra, Nayanthara, Deepika Padukone and Vijay Sethupathi. Being the Bollywood directorial debut of Atlee who has worked in Tollywood- Jawan drops on 7th September. 

Here are some of the key moments from Jawan trailer-

1. The New Bald Look 

While the poster of Jawan showed SRK tied in white bandages, fans were anticipating his look- speculating if he was scarred or rather hiding something entirely different for a new protagonist look.

The trailer shows Shah Rukh Khan removing his bandages- and as he peels them off, he gives us his first bald look. The bad bald guy is seen grooving to a song on a train while passengers tremble at his every move- perhaps waiting for the impending doom? 

2. Different Avatars of King Khan

The two minutes and seconds long Jawan trailer showed quite several looks of Shah Rukh Khan. This is really what sets apart the trailer from the generic ones.

Apart from the bandaged and bald SRK, we also see a half-masked hero- and almost a warrior-clad fully toe-to-head bandaged SRK swiftly alters to a clean-shaved charming gentleman with his signature “Naam Toh Suna Hoga?” dialogue. While in the beginning, the trailer showed SRK in a police uniform- showing the duality of his character. 

From Baazigar to Fan, SRK has given a diverse spectrum of various roles over the years- and Jawan seems to be enhancing his potential even more.

3. The hero or the anti-hero? 

Another thing that the Jawan trailer successfully conceals is whether Shah Rukh Khan is the hero or the villain? He is seen as a police officer initially, ready to fight his enemies, in his black glasses and official uniform.

“When I become a villain, no hero stands a chance against me,” says his character at the end of the trailer. Is he on his way to take revenge? Or was it just a disguise? Or is this a disguise, perhaps? The filmmakers have been extra careful to withhold relevant input about the character. 

Anyhow, his character is shown to be grey- it is evident that you can’t colour it black or white. 

4. Bekarar Karke Hamein 

Out of all the sequences, this has to be one of the best key moments. After the adrenaline-packed action-fuelled trailer, it ends with a song from the 1962 psychological movie Bees Saal Baad.

Shah Rukh’s character is seen dancing in a subway train as he appears to hold the passengers hostage. This further affirms that he is definitely on a mission- perhaps to prove a point or take revenge. While these mysteries remained hidden, the montage reminded us of Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker dancing- as well as Heath Ledger’s Joker holding people hostage along with the good and evil dilemma. 

5. Bandaged People 

In a blink-of-an-eye and the sequence disappears is a huge group of people running in a metro station- and all of them are bandaged in the same way as SRK’s character. A split second montage also shows Sanya Malhotra filling an injection.

There are several hints in the trailer that can unfold to a number of events. We hope that the makers have worked to create an intricate storyline to live up to fans’ expectations or Jawan can be a big misfire.

Conclusion- 

One of the most remarkable features of Jawan trailer is that it gives you absolutely no hints. There is high-octane action, a lot of bullets and guns, fighting and intense thrill- but there is no plot for you to discover what the movie will be about. There is no religious angle, no armies, no flags, no countries- except for a brief moment where SRK is seen in a police uniform. So, Who is he fighting? Why is he fighting? Is Jawan a hero or an anti-hero gone rogue? The directors were successful in setting the enigma as fans have to wait till September to figure it out.
