PBKS Becomes The First Team To Register This Big Record At Wankhede Against MI

Punjab Kings delivered a powerful statement in the IPL 2026 with a commanding win over Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on April 16. Chasing a target of 196, PBKS completed the task with ease in just 16.3 overs, winning by seven wickets.

The star performers of the match were Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer who played brilliant knocks. Prabhsimran Singh scored 80 runs off 39 balls, while Shreyas Iyer added 66 from 35 balls. Their partnership ensured that Punjab never lost control of the chase.

With this win, Punjab Kings achieved a special milestone. They became the first team to register six IPL victories against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. Out of 11 matches played between the two teams at this venue, PBKS have now won six. Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru follow with five wins each from 13 matches at the same ground.

Earlier in the match, Shreyas Iyer, who led Punjab Kings, chose to bowl first. Mumbai had a shaky start, losing Ryan Rickelton for 2 and Suryakumar Yadav for 0 within the first three overs. However, Quinton de Kock and Naman Dhir steadied the innings with a 122-run partnership off 68 balls.

Quinton de Kock, who was picked by Mumbai for Rs 1 crore in the IPL 2026 auction, remained unbeaten on 112 runs from 60 balls, while Naman Dhir contributed 50 runs from 31 balls. Their efforts helped MI reach a competitive total of 195/6 in 20 overs.

However, the target proved insufficient. After a quick start by Priyansh Arya, Shreyas Iyer and Prabhsimran Singh stitched together a match-winning 139-run partnership in just 66 balls, sealing the game comfortably.

This was the third consecutive half-century of Shreyas Iyer in the IPL 2026, taking him to sixth place among the tournament’s top run-scorers. With this victory, Punjab Kings also climbed to the No. 1 spot in the points table.
