A single scene has sparked a big conversation around Kajol, an actor known for staying firm on her on-screen choices for decades. After nearly 30 years in the Hindi film industry, she made a surprising shift that caught fans’ attention.

In her OTT debut, The Trial – Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha, released in 2023, Kajol did her first ever on-screen kiss with co-actor Jisshu Sengupta. For someone who had followed a strict no-kissing rule throughout her career, this moment stood out as a major change.

Talking about it on a podcast, Kajol explained that the decision was not made to shock audiences. Instead, she shared that the scene was deeply connected to her character’s emotional journey. She described it as an important part of the story, reflecting the character’s beliefs, struggles and inner conflicts. According to her, removing the scene would have weakened the character and the overall narrative.

However, the decision wasn’t easy. Kajol admitted she felt uncomfortable while enacting the scene. She revealed that even on the day of the shoot, she wasn’t completely sure if she would go through with it. In the end, she treated it as a professional decision, choosing to trust the story and her role rather than her initial hesitation.

In the series, Kajol plays Noyonika Sengupta, a homemaker who returns to her career as a lawyer after her husband is caught in a scandal. Directed by Suparn Verma, the show is the Indian adaptation of The Good Wife. It also stars Alyy Khan and Sheeba Chaddha in important roles.

Beyond this moment, Kajol also reflected on how she has made decisions throughout her career. She shared that she has always been clear and honest about her choices, even early on when that honesty sometimes led to difficult situations. Still, it helped her stay focused and true to her work.

The second season of The Trial – Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha was released last year and is currently streaming on JioHotstar.

Kajol’s revelation shows that even after decades in the industry, she continues to evolve on her own terms.
