Abhishek Sharma Scripts History, Leaves Chris Gayle Behind & Becomes 1st Batter To Score….

Records were shattered and history was created on April 21 as Abhishek Sharma delivered yet another unforgettable performance in T20 cricket. The World No. 1 T20I batter achieved a rare milestone by becoming the first ever cricketer to score four innings of 130 or more in the format.

Playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Delhi Capitals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, the left-handed opener from Amritsar remained unbeaten on 135 runs off 68 balls. His innings was packed with powerful strokeplay, including 10 fours and 10 sixes, helping his team post a massive 242/2 in 20 overs.

This wasn’t the first time Abhishek Sharma had reached such heights. In the IPL 2025 season, he smashed 141 runs against Punjab Kings on April 12 in Hyderabad. Earlier that year, he scored 135 in a T20I match for India against England on February 2. He also registered a remarkable 148 off just 52 balls for Punjab against Bengal in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on November 30, 2025.

Before Abhishek Sharma, only a few legends had come close to such consistency. Chris Gayle and Aaron Finch had each crossed the 130-run mark three times in T20s. Chris Gayle’s iconic scores include 175* for RCB in 2013, 151* for Somerset in 2015, and 146* for Rangpur Riders in 2017. Aaron Finch, on the other hand, recorded 172 and 156 for Australia and 131* for Surrey in 2018.

Abhishek Sharma’s unbeaten 135 against Delhi Capitals has also placed him fifth on the list of the highest individual scores in the IPL history. The top spot still belongs to Chris Gayle who scored an unbeaten 175 for RCB against Pune Warriors India at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 23, 2013. He is followed by Brendon McCullum who made 158 in the very first IPL match on April 18, 2008, for Kolkata Knight Riders against RCB in Bengaluru.

Interestingly, Abhishek Sharma appears twice in this elite list. His 141 against Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 places him third, while Quinton de Kock follows with an unbeaten 140 for Lucknow Super Giants against Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2022.

With such consistent performances and record-breaking innings, Abhishek Sharma is quickly redefining excellence in T20 cricket.
