Lara Dutta Says Akshay Kumar Never Took Advantage Of Her Or Priyanka Chopra During Andaaz
The early 2000s were a defining time for Bollywood, especially for newcomers trying to find their place in a fast-moving industry. Among them were Priyanka Chopra and Lara Dutta who had just stepped into films after winning international beauty pageants in 2000. They both made their Hindi film debut with Andaaz, alongside Akshay Kumar, marking the beginning of their cinematic journeys.

Looking back, Lara Dutta has shared how uncertain that phase was for both her and Priyanka. With little understanding of how the film industry worked, they entered Bollywood full of ambition but without clear guidance. She described herself as fortunate to have started with Andaaz, especially because of the environment on set. According to Lara, it was a space where she felt safe, supported and not taken advantage of, something that made a huge difference for a newcomer.
She credited Akshay Kumar for playing a key role during that time. More than just a co-star, she saw him as someone who guided and supported them when they needed it the most. Lara explained that Akshay recognised they were young and inexperienced, and instead of misusing that situation, he helped them navigate the early stages of their careers. She also highlighted his deep understanding of the film industry, calling him extremely sharp when it comes to knowing what works and how the business functions. This support, she said, gave her a strong start in Bollywood.

At the same time, Lara’s reflections have brought back memories of past rumours involving Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra. During the early 2000s, their frequent collaborations sparked widespread speculation. Producer Suneel Darshan had once claimed that he had to replace Akshay in Barsaat even after shooting a song, reportedly due to concerns raised by Akshay’s wife, Twinkle Khanna. He also mentioned hearing about personal tensions linked to Priyanka, though none of these claims were officially confirmed.
Suneel Darshan further reflected on how such situations can arise in the film industry, suggesting that close working relationships and individual lifestyles sometimes lead to misunderstandings. He also pointed out that media coverage can amplify these issues, often without considering the impact on filmmakers.

Over the years, all the three actors have moved forward in their personal and professional lives. Priyanka Chopra is now married to Nick Jonas and they have a daughter named Malti Marie Chopra. Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna have been married for 25 years.
Professionally, Akshay and Priyanka went on to work together in several films like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Aitraaz, and Waqt, becoming one of the most talked about on-screen pairs of their time.
