CSK-RCB Rivalry- CSK Complains To BCCI Over “Dosa, Idli….” Song At RCB’s Home Ground

A new controversy has added fuel to one of the most talked about rivalries of the IPL. The clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is now under scrutiny, with the BCCI stepping in after a formal complaint.

The issue dates back to April 5 during an Indian Premier League 2026 match held at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, RCB’s home ground. Before CSK began their innings, a song with lyrics (Dosa, idli, sambar, chutney, chutney) referencing South Indian food was played over the speakers. The track, often used online in a stereotypical context, did not go down well with the CSK camp.

RCB eventually won the high-scoring match by 43 runs but the focus soon shifted away from cricket. CSK management raised concerns not only about the song but also about remarks allegedly made by the stadium DJ targeting their players.

According to a senior IPL official, the complaint has been received and is currently being reviewed. CSK’s managing director Kasi Viswanathan emphasised that DJs are expected to energise the crowd in a positive way. He said that supporting the home team is part of the job but mocking or targeting the opposition crosses a line.

Another CSK official echoed this sentiment, stressing that entertainment during matches should not come at the cost of respect for rival teams.

The controversy also ties back to the song itself, created by musician Gana Appu. Over time, it has gained popularity on social media, often being used in ways that reinforce regional stereotypes. This has led to mixed reactions whenever it is used in public settings.

Interestingly, this is not the first time the song has been linked to the CSK–RCB rivalry. Last year, a video of RCB player Jitesh Sharma singing the same tune went viral, drawing criticism online. Later, during a match in Chennai, the song was played after his dismissal. However, CSK officials quickly intervened at the time, ensuring that their own DJ avoided making comments about opposition players.

Kasi Viswanathan pointed out that since the previous incident, no such behaviour has been repeated at CSK’s home ground. He also highlighted the positive role of fans, noting that strong crowd support can create excitement without crossing into disrespect.

With the BCCI now looking into the matter, the incident raises broader questions about match-day conduct, entertainment boundaries and maintaining sportsmanship in one of the biggest leagues of cricket.
