Dipika Chikhlia Says She Wanted Mandakini’s Role In Ram Teri…. But Is Happy She Didn’t Get It

The Indian actress Dipika Chikhlia is one of the most famous celebrities of the country and the major credit for her popularity goes to Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan (1987) in which she played the character of Devi Sita, wife of Bhagwan Ram.

She became a household name after portraying Mata Sita and though she is very happy that she played this role, there was a time when she wanted to work in movies as well. Recently, she gave an interview in which she revealed that she tried to get the role which was played by Mandakini in “Ram Teri Ganga Maili” but luckily for her, she didn’t get the role.

Dipika stated that at that time, she was doing either lead roles in minor movies or supporting roles in good movies and she was not happy with the manner in which her career graph was moving. She said that she felt like leaving the industry after playing second person roles and then her father’s friend whose daughter was the best friend of Raj Kapoor’s daughter Reema told her that Raj Kapoor is looking for a fresh face for a movie and she should meet him.

She told that she met Raj Kapoor but he refused to cast her in the movie because she was just 17 years old at that time and she was too young for that role.

“Ram Teri Ganga Maili” may have performed well at the box-office but controversies also got created due to some scenes of Mandakini in the movie  and after watching the movie, Dipika was quite happy that she didn’t get the movie otherwise she wouldn’t have got the role of Maa Sita in Ramayan.

Dipika said that she went to watch “Ram Teri Ganga Maili” with her mother and she was shocked after watching the movie. She added that she thanked the God for not getting the movie because how she would have refused to do those scenes if the matter had progressed and felt that it was a blessing in disguise.

“Ram Teri Ganga Maili” got released in 1985, it was the last movie directed by Raj Kapoor and starred Raj Kapoor’s son Rajiv Kapoor and Mandakini in the lead roles.
