Riyan Parag To Dhruv Jurel, 6 Cricketers Who May Debut In T20I Format In IND-ZIM Series
Rohit Sharma led Indian team has won the T20 World Cup 2024 which was played in USA and West Indies. The Indian players have returned to India with the trophy recently and when they will be celebrating their victory, a relatively young team headed by Shubman Gill will be facing Sikander Raza-led Zimbabwe side in the 5-match T20I series at Harare.
All the matches will be played at Harare Sports Stadium and the first match will be played on 6th July.
As the senior cricketers – Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja have announced their retirement from the T20 format, it is quite obvious that the selectors are looking forward to make a new team which will have some new faces. Well, three members of the T20 World Cup 2024 winning squad – Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube and Yashaswi Jaiswal were also supposed to leave for Zimbabwe but due to delay in returning from West Indies, these three will miss the first two T20Is and the selectors have announced their replacements.
In this article, we will talk about the six players who have been included in the national team for the first time and can make debut for India on this tour:
1. Riyan Parag:
The Rajasthan Royals’ cricketer Riyan Parag performed pretty well in the IPL 2024 and helped his team in reaching the play-off round. He was the third highest run-getter of the tournament with 573 run in 16 matches and it won’t be wrong to say that the fans and cricket experts were surprised a little to see him play with so maturity and responsibility especially because prior to that he used to attract attention because of his poor form and attitude rather than game. He certainly has a good chance to make his debut on 6th July as he can also contribute with ball as well and T20 is certainly a format which is most suited for all-rounders.
2. Abhishek Sharma:
Abhishek Sharma played some really powerful and hard-hitting knocks for his IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL2024 and played an important role in taking them to the finals but SRH lost it to the Kolkata Knight Riders. The batter scored 484 runs in 16 matches but what made him stood apart as his strike rate of 204.21. The manner in which he batted in IPL2024, the Indian team management will certainly like to make him debut against Zimbabwe.
3. Harshit Rana:
The KKR bowler has certainly played an important role in his team’s IPL2024 win as he scalped 19 wickets in 13 matches and he is quite certain to be a part of at least first 2 T20I matches on the Zimbabwe tour.
4. Dhruv Jurel:
Dhruv Jurel has already debuted for India in the test format and has impressed everyone with not just his wicketkeeping but also with his batting. He is quite certain to make his debut in the first 2 T20Is as Rishabh Pant has been rested, Sanju Samson won’t be able to reach Zimbabwe by that time and KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan haven’t been included in the squad.
5. Tushar Deshpande:
The 29-yr old pacer plays for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and he has got selected on the basis of his performances in the T20 League. What goes in his favor is the fact that he can contribute with bat as well as he has scored a century for his team, Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy (2023-24) quarterfinal which Mumbai played against Baroda.
6. Sai Sudarshan:
Sai Sudarshan performed quite well in IPL2024 as he scored 527 runs in 12 matches for his team Gujarat Titan but earlier he was snubbed by the selectors. The cricketer who has already debuted in ODIs was included in the T20 Squad for Zimbabwe on 2 July but still he will be facing competition from Ruturaj Gaikwad and Abhishek Sharma for the position of opener.
It will be interesting to see that who all will be able to make into the squad which will play first T20I tomorrow.
