Jasprit Bumrah Picks His Favourite Captain & It’s Not Virat Kohli Or Rohit Sharma
The Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah is certainly one of the greatest pacers of all times and many former cricketers and cricket experts have no hesitation in calling him the best pacer of the present time across all the formats.
He played an important role in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 win and he was also adjudged as the Player of the Tournament for his superb performance.
Recently, Jasprit Bumrah attended an event in which he was asked questions related to various issues and he expressed his opinion in a candid manner. Jasprit Bumrah made his international debut under MS Dhoni’s captaincy in 2016 and he has also played under the captaincy of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. However, when he was asked to pick the greatest captain of all times from the three under whom he has played, he ignored all three of them and said that he is his favourite captain as he has also captained in few games.
Here’s what Jasprit Bumrah said, “See, my favourite captain is me because I have captained a few games. Obviously, there are great captains, but I will take my name… I am my favourite captain.”
Jasprit Bumrah was the captain of the Indian team which played the rescheduled test match against England at Birmingham and he also led the team in 2 T20Is against Ireland. Currently, he is the vice-captain of the Indian test team which is being led by Rohit Sharma.
Jasprit Bumrah has played a lot under Rohit Sharma as they both are a part of the IPL team Mumbai Indians and MI has won 5 IPL titles under Rohit Sharma’s leadership.
Rohit Sharma has been leading the Indian team for the last two years since Virat Kohli gave up captaincy. During the interview, Jasprit Bumrah praised Hitman and said, “There is so much to learn from Rohit Sharma and how he has evolved as a captain; he has learned from mistakes, opened to feedback, is not rigid, listens to everyone, then finally filters it out. I am grateful and privileged to have played under his captaincy for a long time.”

Appreciating Rohit Sharma further, Jasprit Bumrah stated, “In the recent England series, when the youngsters came, Rohit made the atmosphere very comfortable; he took extra effort; he will take them out; he will talk to them about the game; he will try and push them to take the responsibility, as the youngsters should think all are equally important; there is no senior or junior. A captain needs to have empathy towards bowlers and Rohit Sharma is one of the few captains who has empathy for bowlers.”
Jasprit Bumrah also lauded the former skipper Virat Kohli, he said that though Virat Kohli is not a skipper but he is still a leader. In the words of Bumrah, “Virat is energy-driven. He is quite passionate, wears his heart on his sleeves. He pushed us in terms of fitness. He changed the narrative that way. Even though Virat is not the captain, he is still the leader.”
