Jay Shah Announces Rs 125 Crore Prize Money Not Just For Players But For These People Too
The whole India is in celebration mode as the Indian cricket team led by Rohit Sharma has won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and Indian cricket fans are quite delightful as the ICC drought has finally come to an end after a long wait.
The Indian team played the final match against South Africa on 29th June 2024 at Kensington Oval, Barbados and won it by 7 runs. India was the only team which remained unbeaten throughout the tournament that was hosted by USA and West Indies.
After India’s big win, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to give Rs. 125 crores as prize money to the Indian team and it will cover not just the players but the coaching staff and the selectors as well.
The BCCI secretary Jay Shah made a tweet regarding this on X which read, “I am pleased to announce prize money of INR 125 Crores for Team India for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The team has showcased exceptional talent, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and support staff for this outstanding achievement!”

While speaking to the reporters, Jay Shah stated that India won the T20 World Cup title last in 2007 so it is after 17 years that we have won it again. He added that the decision regarding the prize money was taken by the board members in collective manner. He said that just 2 months back, we were number one side in all the formats, cricket is just like religion in India and the Indian players won the tournament in which 20 teams participated so they needed to do something special for them.
He also made it clear that the amount of Rs. 125 crores will be shared among the players, coaching staff, support staff and selectors.
The BCCI has already set its target of winning the Champions Trophy 2025 and the World Test Championship. As far as the Indian team for these two tournaments is concerned, it will remain almost the same as the three senior cricketers (Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja) have retired from T20I only and now they will focus on ODIs and test matches.
Jay Shah stated that he is confident that the Indian team will win both these tournaments as it is a strong and experienced team.
Team India is currently stranded in Barbados as the airports have been shut down due to a hurricane. Jay Shah is personally watching the situation and the BCCI will arrange a charter flight as soon as the airport operations will resume. The Indian cricket team will be meeting the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi after returning to India.
What do you think of the prize money, isn’t it huge?
