Hema Malini Did Not Want To Do “Baghban” For This Reason But Her Mother Convinced Her

Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini starrer “Baghban” which released in 2003 is one of the most loved movies of Bollywood which touched many hearts and made many eyes cry because of its emotional storyline and wonderful acting performances of the actors, especially of Big B and the Dream Girl of Bollywood.

“Baghban” was directed by Ravi Chopra and it also starred Paresh Rawal, Aman Verma, Samir Soni, Divya Dutta, Rimi Sen and others in important roles while Salman Khan and Mahima Chaudhry did cameos in the movie. It was made on the budget of Rs. 10 crores and went on to earn around Rs. 43 crores.

The chemistry of the lead couple was loved by the audiences and “Baghban” has achieved a cult status in present times. But do you know that the veteran actress Hema Malini was not interested in playing the character as she had to play the role of mother of 4 grown-up boys but it was her mother who convinced her to do it.

During an interview, Hema Malini stated, “Before the mahurat of Baghban, B.R Chopra met me and told me that he wants me to play the role perfectly just like he had desired. He narrated to the story to me and I think, it was his blessings because of which the film did well. Till today, people talk about that film. I remember when I was hearing the story from Ravi Chopra, my mother was sitting with me. After he left, I said, ‘Chaar itne bade bade ladko ke maa ka role karne toh bol raha hai. How can I do all this?’ My mother said, ‘no, no. You must do it. The story is good’.”

“Baghban” is based on the story of couple played by Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini who had spent all their earnings on their kids and after retirement, they asked their 4 sons to support them but all of them were not interested in taking care of them because of which they had to live separately for some time.

However, things changed when Amitabh wrote a book and his book becomes a hit and their sons came back to them because of the money which Amitabh earned through the selling of copies of his book.

It is really good that Hema Malini did the role because she played it to the perfection, didn’t she?
