Yuzvendra Chahal’s Omission From Asia Cup Squad Leaves Cricket Fraternity Divided
The Indian squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 was announced yesterday in a press conference which was attended by the skipper of the Indian team, Rohit Sharma and chief selector, Ajit Agarkar.
It has been made clear that India’s squad for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 will comprise the same players with very few chances of any changes depending on the situation. While the inclusion of Tilak Varma has made many cricket fans happy, the omission of Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has left people disappointed and the cricket fraternity has been left divided as well over the same.
The selectors have chosen to go with Kuldeep Yadav and the former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden is not happy with the omission of Yuzi as he calls it a big omission. Matthew Hayden states that there are some big omissions, especially of Yuzvendra Chahal because he is a superb spinner and it must have been difficult for the selectors. He adds that the selectors had an option in the form of Kuldeep Yadav who is also a superb player and they chose to go with him.
The former Indian cricketer and former President of the BCCI, Sourav Ganguly stated in an interview that he would have selected Yuzi because he will always go with wrist spinners.
The legendary former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar feels that Kuldeep Yadav has been preferred by the selectors over Yuzvendra Chahal because of his batting. Gavaskar says that Kuldeep is a better batter between the two which gives him an edge and at the same time, he will also bring a balance in the team apart from giving left hand variety.
The former Indian pacer Irfan Pathan took to X and wrote his opinion, “Worry for selectors that Bumrah and Prasidh coming back from long layoff. That’s one of the two reasons you will see India team playing with an extra bowler who can bat. I would have Chahal in my squad. What do you guys think? #AsiaCup”

The skipper Rohit Sharma also states in the press conference that the doors for R Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar are still open and they will be included in the World Cup if the management feels that they are needed in the squad.
