“We Will Struggle If…” Yuvraj Singh Concerned About World Cup Because Of Team’s Middle Order
The Indian cricket team is definitely one of the favourites for winning the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 as they will be playing in their home conditions but if we go by the Indian team’s performance in West Indies, then they certainly need to improve a lot in order to become worthy of winning the World Cup.
Though many former cricketers including Glenn McGrath and Eoin Morgan have cited that India will be among the top four in the tournament yet former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh has spoken otherwise in this regard.
While speaking on a YouTube channel, Yuvraj Singh says that he can be a patriot and say that India will win the World Cup but he is seeing many concerns in the middle order of the Indian squad because of injuries. He says that the Indian team will struggle if these concerns are not resolved especially in the pressure matches. At the same time, he also warns that no experiments should be done during the tournament. According to Yuvi, the skill set of a middle order batter is different from that of an opener and he asks if anyone from the team management is working with the guys as the middle order is not ready and someone has to make these guys ready for the middle order.
Yuvi further cites that if the openers get dismissed early then it is upto the middle order to build the partnership. He adds that the middle order batters are not like openers who can go and start hitting, the middle order batters need to absorb the pressure, leave some balls, get settled and build partnership. He concludes by saying that someone experienced is needed in the middle order as it is a difficult job.
Yuvraj Singh made his debut under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly and he played many match-winning knocks for the country. He also played a pivotal role in India’s 2007 ICC T20 World Cup win and 2011 ICC ODI World Cup win. He is an inspiration for many of us as he fought a deadly disease cancer and defeated it and then he made a comeback on the field.
Yuvraj Singh played 40 test matches, 304 ODIs and 58 T20Is for the country in which he scored 1900 runs, 8701 runs and 1177 runs, respectively.
We hope that the team management is listening as Yuvraj Singh was a middle order batter and he finished many matches with style for India.
