Neeraj Chopra Scripts History, Becomes First Indian To Win Gold At World Athletics Championship
In a country where the majority of the youngsters get inspired from cricketers only, it feels good to see a non-cricket sportsperson getting love and affection from the public. We are talking about 25 years old Neeraj Chopra, the Indian track and field athlete who became a household name after winning the gold in 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Neeraj Chopra has scripted history once again as he has stuck gold again but this time at the World Athletics Championship which was held at Budapest, Hungary. He won gold by throwing Javelin at the distance of 88.17m which he managed in his second attempt. Despite starting with a foul, Neeraj Chopra managed to throw javelin at the distances of 88.17m, 86.32m, 84.64m, 87.73m and 83.98m.
The Golden boy, as his fans love to call him, has become the first Indian to win the gold at the World Athletics Championship and now he is the second Indian after Indian shooter Abhivnav Bindra to hold the Olympics and World Athletics Championship title, simultaneously.
Not just this, Neeraj Chopra has also become the third Javelin thrower of the world who holds Olympics and World Athletics Championship titles, simultaneously. The first two were – Jan Zelezny of the Czech Republic and Andreas Thorkildsen of Norway.
The micro-blogging site X (formerly known as Twitter) was flooded with congratulatory messages for the Indian athlete, here are some selected ones:
