Tabu Says Bollywood Focuses On Women’s Age, “People Are More Worried About Your Age Than You Are”

Fresh off the success of Bhooth Bangla, popular Bollywood actress Tabu has spoken openly about the pressures women face in the film industry and why she has never believed in hiding her true opinions. The Priyadarshan-directed film, released in April 2026, stars Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Wamiqa Gabbi, Rajpal Yadav and Tabu. Despite competition from new releases, the horror-comedy has continued to perform strongly at the box office.

During a recent conversation, Tabu reflected on how society constantly focuses on a woman’s age, especially in cinema. She pointed out that people often seem more concerned about ageing than the women experiencing it themselves. According to the actress, there is an unnecessary tendency to remind women about growing older, as if they are unaware of it.

Tabu also explained that ageing is a gradual and natural process rather than a sudden change. She shared that people evolve every single day and no one transforms overnight. Her comments highlighted how unrealistic expectations around youth and appearance still exist in the entertainment industry.

The actress further revealed that she was often advised to avoid being brutally honest while rejecting film offers. In the industry, actors are usually expected to politely refuse projects by blaming scheduling conflicts or date issues instead of directly criticising a script. However, Tabu said she never understood the need to hide her actual reason. If she did not connect with a script, she preferred saying it honestly rather than making excuses.

Known for speaking her mind and choosing unconventional roles throughout her career, Tabu’s candid remarks once again drew attention to the challenges actresses continue to face in Bollywood.

On the work front, Tabu will next appear in King100 alongside Nagarjuna Akkineni. The upcoming project is especially significant as it marks Nagarjuna’s 100^th film.
