DC Player KL Rahul Scripts History, Creates Historic IPL Record No Batter Has Achieved Before
The Indian cricketer KL Rahul added another major achievement to his IPL career during Delhi Capitals’ final league match of the IPL 2026 against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Sunday, May 24.

Opening the innings for Delhi Capitals, KL Rahul played a powerful knock of 60 runs from just 30 balls. His aggressive innings included 5 fours and 4 sixes, helping DC get off to a strong start against Ajinkya Rahane-led KKR side.
Those four sixes also helped KL Rahul create a unique IPL record. With his tally reaching 31 sixes in the IPL 2026, Rahul became the first player in the world to hit 30 or more sixes in an IPL season for three different franchises.
KL Rahul had earlier crossed the 30-sixes mark while playing for Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants. In the IPL 2018, he smashed 32 sixes in 14 matches for Punjab Kings. He again hit 30 sixes in the 2021 season for PBKS before repeating the feat for Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2022.

Over the years, several big hitters have crossed the 30-sixes mark for multiple teams but none had managed to do it for three franchises before KL Rahul. Former West Indies star Chris Gayle achieved the feat for Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings, while Glenn Maxwell also recorded 30-plus sixes seasons for both franchises.
KL Rahul’s 31 sixes in the IPL 2026 also made him only the second Delhi Capitals batter to hit 30 or more sixes in a single IPL season. The first player to do so was Rishabh Pant, who smashed 37 sixes in 14 matches during the IPL 2018.

In Delhi Capitals’ list of most sixes in a season, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul are followed by Australian batter Jake Fraser-McGurk, who hit 28 sixes in just nine matches during the IPL 2024 under Rishabh Pant’s captaincy.
Well played, KL Rahul!
