Traveler Lost Bag Containing Items Worth Rs 45K; Got Rs 2,450 In Compensation From IndiGo
Flight delays and cancellations can be aggravating, but the loss or damage of luggage often proves to be the tipping point for many travelers. Unfortunately, this is a frequent issue, as highlighted by a recent case. Monik Sharma from Assam experienced this firsthand when his bag containing items valued at Rs 45,000 went missing on an IndiGo domestic flight from Kolkata to Guwahati. To his dismay, the airline offered him a meager compensation of just Rs 2,450.
A friend of Monik Sharma brought attention to the situation on social media. The post detailed that his checked-in luggage was lost during a major Crowdstrike outage, which caused significant disruption across multiple airlines. The missing bag reportedly contained valuable items and important documents, including a driving license, PAN card and Aadhaar card. The user reached out to IndiGo via social media, urging the airline to assist Monik Sharma, noting that the offered compensation was inadequate. An image of Monik Sharma’s boarding pass was also shared.
The friend posted the photo of the boarding pass and tweeted, “Every day you learn how the system can mess you up in a new way. @IndiGo6E lost my friend’s @nik1220’s baggage on a domestic flight (Kolkata-Guwahati). The bag had stuff worth 45k in it along with important papers like Driving License, PAN, Aadhar, etc. It was checked in at Kolkata airport. It never reached Guwahati. How can it vanish mid air? Was the plane leaking bags? Around a month later – Indigo has come back offering ‘compensation’ of ₹2450. It is ridiculous. Just the bag would cost more than that. Apparently, there is a rule that the airline is liable for a maximum of ₹350 / kg in case they lose the bag. That is just adding insult to injury. If someone from the Indigo social media team is reading this – please help him out. 2450₹ isn’t going to fix it. Boarding pass given below.”

Although it remains unclear whether the luggage has been located, the user later updated the post, mentioning that IndiGo’s social media team had contacted them, promising further investigation into the matter.
