Heartbroken Vinesh Phogat Retires From Wrestling After Olympics Disqualification
The Indian woman wrestler Vinesh Phogat was left heartbroken when she was disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024 for being overweight by 100 gms.
Vinesh Phogat who was participating in the 50 Kg freestyle wrestling had a phenomenal run in the tournament but just before the final bout, she got disqualified as she exceeded the weight limit by 100 gms. Vinesh was considered to be a very strong contender for the gold medal but after this heart-wrenching incident, she decided to hang her boots and announced her retirement from wrestling.
Vinesh Phogat took to X and wrote, “Ma, wrestling has won, I have lost. Please forgive me, your dreams and my courage, everything is broken. I don’t have any more strength now. Goodbye wrestling 2001-2024. I shall be indebted to you all. Forgive (me).”

Till now, Vinesh Phogat used to take part in the 53 Kg freestyle wrestling category but in the Paris Olympics 2024, she took part in the 50 Kg freestyle wrestling category. It is being said that on Tuesday night, Vinesh Phogat weighed 1 Kg more than the weight limit and she did many things to reduce her weight.
Vinesh didn’t sleep at night, she skipped meals, indulged in running and skipping exercises, cut her hair, had intense sauna sessions and she also drew her blood to weigh inside the limits. Later on she was hospitalized as the extreme measures took a toll on her body.
However, there is a chance that Vinesh Phogat may get the Silver medal if the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) gives the decision in her favor as Vinesh has filed an appeal in CAS against her disqualification.
