Varun Chakaravarthy Shares Positive Update About Abhishek Sharma Ahead Of Ind-Pak Clash

India’s massive 93-run win over Namibia in Delhi did more than strengthening their campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, it also sparked fresh hope about Abhishek Sharma’s return.

After the match on Thursday, February 12, the World No. 1 T20I bowler Varun Chakaravarthy shared an encouraging update about the World No. 1 T20I batter. Speaking to reporters, Varun said Abhishek looked fine and even trained that day. He added that from what he had heard directly from Abhishek, the batter seemed to be recovering well and could possibly feature in the next game.

India, currently ranked the World No. 1 T20I team, are set to face arch-rivals Pakistan in their third Group A match on Sunday, February 15. The much-anticipated clash will take place at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, adding even more excitement to the situation.

Abhishek Sharma had made his T20 World Cup debut on February 7 in Mumbai against the USA. However, he missed the Namibia match in Delhi due to illness. His absence was noticeable, especially with a big match against Pakistan around the corner.

According to the board, Abhishek Sharma is still recovering from illness and was unavailable for selection for the Namibia match. The BCCI added that its medical team is closely monitoring his progress.

In Abhishek’s absence, Sanju Samson opened the innings and made a quick impact. He scored 22 runs off just 8 balls, smashing three sixes in his short stay. Although he couldn’t turn it into a big score, his aggressive start gave India early momentum.
