Salman Khan Copied His Driver’s Dance Moves For ‘Munni Badnaam Hui’, Reveals Music Director
When people think of Dabangg, one song instantly comes to mind; yes, we are talking about “Munni Badnaam Hui”. Featuring Salman Khan and Malaika Arora, the track became a massive hit and is still played at weddings and parties. Its catchy music and signature hook steps made it unforgettable. However, very few know that Salman’s dance moves in the track were inspired by someone very unexpected — his own driver.

Music composer Lalit Pandit who created the song once shared an interesting story behind those famous steps. He recalled that after the song was recorded, Salman Khan invited his driver, cook and others to his farmhouse. Salman, known for his fun-loving personality, kept the mood light and playful. That night, they lit a bonfire and encouraged everyone to dance freely. With music playing and everyone relaxed, Salman observed the way they danced, especially the carefree, natural moves of his driver. Later, he used those same spontaneous steps in the song, including the famous move with his hands raised in the air.

Interestingly, Salman Khan was not even the original choice for Dabangg. Director Abhinav Kashyap had first approached Sonu Sood for the lead role of Chulbul Pandey. However, when Arbaaz Khan narrated the script to Salman, he immediately expressed his desire to play the lead.
Sonu Sood, meanwhile, was offered the role of Chhedi Singh. In an interview, Sonu shared that he initially turned down the role because he could not fully connect with the character. He said he wanted the role to be developed further and even suggested making some changes to the script over a few days. He also expressed a desire to have a song in the film and discussed ideas about how it could be presented.

However, things took a different turn. Sonu Sood later revealed that he was informed Salman Khan would be part of the song sequence instead. Though he was disappointed at first, he eventually accepted the situation, acknowledging that everything worked out well in the end. The song became iconic and people still remember it fondly.
Today, “Munni Badnaam Hui” remains one of the most celebrated dance numbers of Bollywood and its story makes it even more memorable.
