Brad Haddin Praises Jasprit Bumrah, Calls Him Future Glenn McGrath Or Wasim Akram

The Indian cricket team had a pretty disappointing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 as they lost it to Australia by 1-3 but the Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah impressed everyone not just with his bowling skills but also with his leadership ability. While the Aussie legend Glenn McGrath went on to the extent of saying that without Jasprit Bumrah, the series would have been one sided, the former Australian cricketer Brad Haddin recently stated that Bumrah is a future legend as he will be named among legends.

Brad Haddin, former wicketkeeper of Australia, has made a bold prediction about Jasprit Bumrah’s legacy in international cricket, suggesting that the Indian vice-captain will eventually be counted among bowling legends like Glenn McGrath and Wasim Akram.

Bumrah’s performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 was nothing short of spectacular. Despite India losing the series by 1-3, the 31 years old speedster stood out with his remarkable bowling, earning the Player of the Series award for his consistent brilliance across the five Tests.

Brad Haddin stated in a podcast, “By the time he finishes his career, we will be talking about him in the same breath as McGrath and Wasim Akram. He was so influential over the series.”

Haddin acknowledged that Bumrah still has much to prove but expressed confidence that, with sustained excellence, he would be part of the conversation about the greatest bowlers of all time. Bumrah’s leadership also came under the spotlight during the series, as he captained India in Perth and led them to a commanding 295-run victory which is the Indian team’s only win on the tour.

Haddin further added, “I wouldn’t put him on top of that league. He’s got a long way to go. He’s got 200 Test wickets. We hope to see him sometime. If he continues the same way he is going, his name will be in that conversation.”

Statistically, Jasprit Bumrah dominated the series, finishing as the leading wicket-taker. He claimed 32 wickets at an exceptional average of 13.06 and maintained an economy rate of 2.76, highlighting his control and effectiveness. In the final Test in Sydney, he once again donned the skipper’s role but was unable to help India retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Unfortunately, a back spasm ruled him out of India’s second bowling innings, further affecting the team’s chances.

With the Border-Gavaskar Trophy now concluded as of January 5, India is shifting its focus to the upcoming England series at home. In this series starting January 22, five T20Is and three ODIs will be played between the two teams. However, Bumrah is likely to be rested for most of the series, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) intent on managing his workload carefully.

The priority for the BCCI is to ensure Jasprit Bumrah is fully fit for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where his presence will be critical to India’s chances of success. As one of the most formidable pacers in the world, Bumrah’s performances in key tournaments are seen as pivotal to India’s cricketing fortunes.
