Rishabh Pant Set For Massive Pay Cut As He Moves Back To His Former Franchise, He Loses….
One of the biggest IPL transfer stories ahead of the 2027 season appears to be taking shape and it involves a surprising financial sacrifice from one of India’s biggest cricket stars. According to a report, Rishabh Pant is set to move from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) back to Delhi Capitals (DC) in a deal that could see him take a pay cut of ₹12 crore.

The report claims Rishabh Pant has agreed to a contract worth ₹15 crore with Delhi Capitals, significantly lower than the ₹27 crore record-breaking deal he received when LSG signed him ahead of the 2025 IPL season. The difference amounts to nearly 44% of his previous salary.
Rishabh Pant’s IPL career has seen several twists over the years. Between 2016 and 2024, he represented Delhi Capitals, scoring 3,284 runs in 111 matches and also captaining the franchise. However, his release before the 2025 IPL auction came as a surprise to many fans and experts.

Reports at the time suggested that changes within the franchise’s management structure may have played a role. Delhi Capitals is jointly owned by JSW Group and GMR Group, with both organisations operating the team on a rotational basis for two years at a time. Rishabh Pant’s departure coincided with GMR Group taking over operational control from JSW.
After joining Lucknow Super Giants in 2024 for a record fee, expectations were sky-high. Team owner Sanjiv Goenka had reportedly backed Pant to become one of the IPL’s greatest players and lead the franchise for the next decade. However, things did not go as planned. Across two seasons, Rishabh Pant scored 581 runs at a strike rate of 135.75, while LSG finished seventh and tenth in the league standings.

Following a disappointing 2026 season, Rishabh Pant stepped down as captain. Reports suggest he is unlikely to lead Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2027, with KL Rahul emerging as a strong candidate for the captaincy role.
Meanwhile, the trade is expected to involve Kuldeep Yadav moving from DC to LSG. The left-arm wrist-spinner is reportedly set to retain his salary of ₹13.25 crore. As part of the arrangement, LSG would pay ₹1.25 crore while trading Rishabh Pant to DC and also gain an additional ₹15 crore in their auction purse ahead of the IPL 2027 auction, scheduled later this year.
