“A Dream Come….,” Skipper Rajat Patidar Was At Loss Of Words After RCB’s 2nd Consecutive Win
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) strengthened their legacy by defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) by five wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to win a second consecutive IPL title. The triumph marked another milestone for the franchise, making RCB only the third team in the IPL history to secure back-to-back championships.
After the victory, captain Rajat Patidar expressed immense pride and gratitude while reflecting on the journey. He credited the team’s collective effort, particularly the bowling unit, for laying the foundation for success. Rajat Patidar also acknowledged the support and guidance he received from senior figures within the squad throughout the tournament.
Batting first on a slow Ahmedabad surface, Gujarat Titans struggled to gain momentum from the start. Shubman Gill and B Sai Sudharsan were dismissed during the PowerPlay, putting the team under early pressure. Washington Sundar fought hard with an unbeaten 50 off 37 balls but disciplined spells from Josh Hazlewood, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rasikh Salam Dhar restricted Gujarat’s scoring opportunities. As a result, GT finished with a below-par total of 155 for 8.

RCB responded aggressively during the chase. Virat Kohli and Venkatesh Iyer added 62 runs in just 4.3 overs, immediately putting Gujarat on the back foot and applying pressure on Kagiso Rabada. The Titans briefly fought back by reducing RCB to 91 for 4, dismissing Venkatesh Iyer, Devdutt Padikkal, Rajat Patidar and Krunal Pandya. However, Kohli remained composed at the crease and guided the innings forward. Tim David’s quick contribution of 24 runs further eased the pressure before Virat finished the chase in style with a six.
Speaking after the match, Rajat Patidar said that the achievement was a special and emotional moment for him. He admitted that leading RCB to an IPL title was something he had never envisioned and described the experience as a dream come true. The captain also revealed that while there had been pressure following the team’s first championship-winning season, the squad entered this campaign with greater confidence because of their strong performances and positive mindset throughout the tournament.
Rajat Patidar further highlighted the influence of experienced members such as Dinesh Karthik and Virat Kohli, noting that their advice and leadership played a key role in the team’s success. He particularly praised Kohli for mentoring younger players and creating a supportive environment within the squad. Concluding his remarks, Rajat Patidar dedicated the historic victory to RCB’s passionate fanbase, signing off with the franchise’s iconic slogan, “Ee Salanu Cup Namdu”.
Congratulations RCB!
