In the coming years, several high-profile sequels are set to hit the big screen, promising fans a return to cherished characters and stories.
Here’s a comprehensive overview of the upcoming sequels, along with a brief look at their originals.
1. Don 3:
The first movie of the Don series was a remake of the 1978 classic and in this film, Shah Rukh Khan stepped into Amitabh Bachchan’s shoes. Directed by Farhan Akhtar, both the movies, Don (2006) and Don 2 (2011) offered gripping heists and twists. However, a controversy erupted as fans got angry after Farhan Akhtar announced that Ranveer Singh will replace Shah Rukh Khan in the third part.
2. Hera Pheri 3
The first movie of the franchise, Hera Pheri (2000) was directed by Priyadarshan and its sequel Phir Hera Pheri (2006) was directed by Neeraj Vora. Both are cult classics known for their iconic humour and impeccable performances by Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal. The third part is being directed by Farhad Samji and the original trio, i.e., Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal will reunite for the third movie.
3. War 2
The original Movie War (2019) was directed by Siddharth Anand and it featured Hrithik Roshan as Kabir and Tiger Shroff as Khalid in a sleek action-packed espionage thriller. The second part is going to be directed by Ayan Mukerji and it will be one of the biggest movies as it will star the two biggest actors of the Indian cinema – Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR.
4. Gadar 3
The first movie, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001) was directed by Anil Sharma and it became a historic success, depicting the love story of Tara Singh (Sunny Deol) and Sakina (Ameesha Patel) against the backdrop of Partition. The sequel, Gadar 2 (2023), revived the saga with Tara rescuing his son from Pakistan. The second part was also directed by Anil Sharma and few months ago, he stated in an interview that work on the third part of the franchise is going on.
5. Bhediya 2
The first part of the series, Bhediya (2022) was directed by Amar Kaushik and it explored werewolf mythology with Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon in the lead. The sequel will also be directed by Amar Kaushik, while Varun Dhawan is slated to reprise his role in the second part, a new actress will play the female lead in the second part.
6. Housefull 5
The fifth part of the franchise will release on 6 June 2025; directed by Tarun Mansukhani, the movie stars Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Kriti Sanon, Nora Fatehi, Fardeen Khan and many other actors.
7. De De Pyaar De 2:
It is a sequel to the 2019 movie, De De Pyaar De and most probably, all the actors from the first part such as Ajay Devgn, Rakulpreet Singh, Tabu, etc. will reprise their roles. R Madhavan has joined the cast of the movie which is being directed by Anshul Sharma and it is scheduled to release on 1 May 2025.
8. Animal Park:
Sandeep Reddy Vanga directed Animal got released in 2023 and it scripted history by earning Rs. 900 crores at the box-office. The movie starred Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna and Triptii Dimri in important roles and the sequel of the movie, Animal Park is slated to release in 2027.
9. Son of Sardaar 2:
Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, Son of Sardaar 2 is a sequel of 2012 movie and the sequel stars Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt and Mrunal Thakur in important roles.
10. Jolly LLB 3:
The third part of the Jolly LLB series will have both the Jollys (Arshad Warsi from the first part & Akshay Kumar from the second part). Moreover, it will also have Amrita Rao, Huma Qureshi and Saurabh Shukla playing important roles. The movie which is being directed by Subhash Kapoor is slated to release on 11 April 2025.
