Virat Kohli Surpasses Sachin Tendulkar By Achieving New Milestones In ICC Events
The Indian cricket team got off to a flying start in the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023 as it defeated the Australian cricket team by 6 wickets in the match which was played yesterday at Chepauk stadium, Chennai. Though the Indian team had to chase only 200 runs for winning the match, the start of Indian batting was no less a nightmare as India had lost 3 wickets at the score of 2 by the end of the second over.
However, Indian batters Virat Kohli and KL Rahul batted sensibly, scored runs at a steady rate and ensured that Australians didn’t get another chance to celebrate. Though Virat Kohli batted slowly as he completed his half-century in 75 balls yet during his innings of 85 runs, the former Indian skipper achieved few milestones.
Virat Kohli surpassed the legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar in the list of the batters who have scored maximum runs in the ICC events for his country (ICC ODI World Cup, ICC T20 World Cup and ICC Champions Trophy). In 67 matches, Virat Kohli scored 2765 runs, Sachin Tendulkar is at the second spot with 2719 runs, Rohit at the third spot (2422 runs), Yuvraj Singh at the fourth position with 1707 runs and Sourav Ganguly is at the fifth spot with 1671 runs.
Other than this, Virat Kohli has also become the batter who has maximum 50+ scores in ODIs as a non-opener, he surpassed Kumara Sangakkara after scoring his 113th 50+ score as a non-opener. Ricky Ponting is at the third spot with 109 50+ scores as a non-opener followed by Jacques Kallis (102) and Inzamam-ul-Haq (88).
As far as the match is concerned, the Aussies managed to put up a total of 199 runs on the scoreboard after winning the toss as the Indian bowlers put up a great show. Ravindra Jadeja took the advantage of knowing the Chennai pitch pretty well as he plays for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and he took 3 important wickets in his 10 overs and gave only 28 runs.
India won the match by 6 wickets and 52 balls were still remaining in its innings.
