While Ratan Tata’s professional accomplishments are widely celebrated, his personal life has often piqued curiosity, particularly his decision to remain unmarried. In a candid interview with a news channel, Ratan Tata revealed that he had fallen in love four times and had come close to marrying on several occasions. However, various circumstances made him step back each time.

One of the most notable instances occurred while Ratan Tata was living in the United States. He shared a deep connection with a woman and the two were on the verge of marriage but the Indo-China conflict in 1962 changed the course of their relationship.

Ratan Tata stated that one of his relationships which were very serious happened in US when he was working over there. He added that they didn’t get married because he returned to India and his ex-lover was supposed to follow him but she didn’t return after the Indo-China conflict of 1962 turned into a full fledge war and eventually she got married to someone else in US.

When asked why he never married despite his romantic encounters, Ratan Tata admitted that fear played a role in his decisions. He confessed that four times he came very close to getting married but each time he backed off out of fear because of some reason. Reflecting on his past decisions, Ratan Tata expressed that perhaps remaining unmarried had been for the best, stating that marriage might have resulted in making things more complex for him.

Simi Garewal, a well-known actress and talk show host, also acknowledged her romantic involvement with Ratan Tata in a 2011 interview with a leading publication. She described him as a man of perfection, humour, modesty and grace. Although their relationship did not culminate in marriage, they remained close friends throughout the years.
