“No One Better In India Than MS Dhoni,” Steve Smith Lauds Mahi, Recalls Captaining Him In IPL

The former Indian cricketer MS Dhoni is certainly one of the greatest skippers that India has ever had as he is the only skipper to have won three ICC trophies – 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup and 2013 Champion Trophy. His IPL record is also superb; he holds the joint record of winning the most number of IPL titles as both he and Rohit Sharma, the former skipper of Mumbai Indians, have won IPL titles five times.

However, it seems that we won’t be able to see MS Dhoni in the IPL from the next year as he has already handed over the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings to Ruturaj Gaikwad and this is being seen as a hint that the IPL 2024 is Dhoni’s last IPL as a player.

MS Dhoni has been associated with CSK since the inaugural edition of 2008 but for 2 years (2016 & 2017) when CSK and Rajasthan Royals were suspended, MS Dhoni played for Rising Pune Supergiant. In 2016, Dhoni led RPS but because of the team’s poor performance, in 2017, he was replaced by Australian cricketer Steve Smith which makes Smith a rare player who has played against Mahi, played with Mahi and led Mahi too.

Recently Steve Smith gave an interview in which he talked about the time which he spent with MS Dhoni. He said that MSD was just fantastic and he really had a great time playing with him and leading him as well. Steve Smith said that Dhoni also helped him when he (Smith) was the skipper of the team.

Steve Smith is of the opinion that there is no one who is better than Dhoni in India when it comes to keeping the wickets because the manner in which he understands the game and the angles of the game is just unmatchable. He added that he enjoyed the company of Captain Cool both on and off-the-field and he was a wonderful player to play with. Steve Smith went on to say that though Dhoni is a very busy person who has a lot to do outside the game as well, yet he is a very simple and down to earth person.

MS Dhoni is a gem and there is no doubt about that!
