Andy Flower Reveals Why He Joined Virat Kohli’s RCB Team As The Head Coach

The IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore will be playing their first match of the IPL 2024 on 22 March 2024 against defending champions Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk Stadium, Chennai and this will be the opening match of the tournament as well.

RCB is one of those few teams which have been playing in the IPL since the inaugural edition of 2008 but they haven’t won a single title till date. The pressure of winning the IPL trophy has been increased on RCB with every passing season but now this pressure has increased manifold as the women’s team of the Bengaluru franchise has won the WPL trophy in the second season only.

Winning a trophy in the second season is a big achievement for Smriti Mandhana-led RCB women’s team as men’s team failed to do that in the last 16 seasons despite the fact that RCB has always been a strong team with some big names of the cricket world playing for it in different time periods.

Virat Kohli, the Indian cricketer has been associated with RCB since the inaugural edition and he was also the skipper of the team from 2013 till 2021 but he could not to make his team win their maiden trophy. Every year, RCB fans hoped to see their team lifting the trophy but each year, they got only disappointment in return of their hopes.

This year Andy Flower has joined RCB as the coach and during an interview, he revealed that the main motive for him behind taking up this job was to take the challenge of joining a team which hasn’t won a title yet. He termed it as an exciting opportunity to see whether anything special can be done with RCB. Talking about the RCB squad, he said that Faf du Plessis-led team is a strong one and they also have a good experience in the dressing room.

Andy Flower was earlier associated with Lucknow Super Giants and he feels that all-rounders will play an important part in the tournament.
