Ishan Kishan Is Not The 1st One, Here Are 3 Other Players Who Got Dropped After Scoring 200 Runs
The Indian cricket team has taken a lead of 1-0 in the ongoing 3-match ODI series by winning the first ODI which was played yesterday at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati, Assam. However, still there are many cricket fans who are not happy with the coach Rahul Dravid, skipper Rohit Sharma and the team management for not including Ishan Kishan in the Indian squad despite the fact that he has scored a double hundred in the last ODI which he played against Bangladesh.
However, this is not the first time that a player has been dropped just after scoring 200 in a match, there are total four players in the cricket world who got dropped after scoring a 200 but the only difference in Ishan Kishan and the other three players is that he scored a double hundred in an ODI while the other three scored in test matches.
Here is the list of all those four players:
1. Geoffrey Boycott:
The former English cricketer was the first player in the history of cricket to get dropped from the team after scoring a double hundred in his last played test match. In 1967, Geoffrey Boycott scored 246 runs against India in the first test match of the 3-match series which was played at Leeds but he batted very slowly as he played 555 balls and stayed on the crease for 573 minutes for scoring his highest score. This slow approach of Geoffrey Boycott annoyed not only cricket fans and media but the selectors as well and he was dropped for the next test match.
2. Aravinda de Silva:
The former legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Aravinda De Silva played a superb innings of 206 runs against Bangladesh in the first test match of the 2-match series which was played at Colombo in 2002. Though Aravinda de Silva was rested for the next test match because the selectors wanted to give a chance to youngsters, what made people say that Aravinda was dropped was the fact that it turned out to be the last test match of Aravinda de Silva.
3. Jason Gillespie:
The former Australian pacer Jason Gillespie surprised everyone when he scored 201 not out against Bangladesh in a test match played in 2006 as he was sent to bat as a nightwatchman and nobody expected him to bat so well. However, the pacer was still dropped from the team because he was struggling with his bowling.
4. Ishan Kishan:
Ishan Kishan played a sensational innings of 210 runs (131 balls, 24 fours & 10 sixes) in the third ODI of the 3-match series against Bangladesh which was played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram, Bangladesh, on 10th Dec 2022. Everyone believed that it would be impossible to drop him from the ODI squad after he scored a double hundred but in the 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, Ishan Kishan got dropped in order to make space for senior cricketers Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul who were rested by the selectors for the 3-match T20I series against Sri Lanka.
Do you also feel like many others that the selectors seem to be obsessed with KL Rahul who is out of form for a long time now? Let us know your opinion.
