Wasim Jaffer Warns The Indian Team Not To Take Bangladesh Lightly In 2-Match Test Series

The 2-match test series between India and Bangladesh has started today as the first match of the series is being played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and few former Indian cricketers including Wasim Jaffer have issued a word of caution to the Rohit Sharma-led side in regard to this series.

Wasim Jaffer emphasized that India should not take Bangladesh lightly, highlighting the team’s recent improvements. Wasim Jaffer, known for his sharp cricketing insights, warned India against underestimating Bangladesh, citing their latest success against top teams. Bangladesh recently made history by defeating Pakistan in a two-match test series, securing their first-ever test series victory over them. According to Jaffer, Bangladesh has shifted its mindset, enabling them to compete fiercely against stronger teams.

During an interview, Wasim Jaffer stated that the Bangladeshi team has become better with experience, earlier they were known for playing well in their home conditions only but now they have toured well also. He added that the Bangladeshi cricket team has defeated the Kiwis in their own backyard (2023 at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui) and recently, they defeated the Pakistani team in Pakistan. Jaffer further said that Bangladesh has performed pretty well in patches in limited overs cricket and there are quite a few seniors who are guiding them.

Wasim Jaffer made special mention of Bangladesh’s experienced duo, Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim. He praised them for guiding the younger players with their wealth of experience and noted their crucial role in shaping the team’s newfound resilience.

In contrast to the past when Bangladesh was heavily reliant on spinners, Wasim Jaffer said that the current team possesses a well-rounded bowling attack, including talented fast bowlers. He attributed this improvement to former bowling coaches Allan Donald and Courtney Walsh, who helped develop Bangladesh’s pace unit.

Wasim Jaffer further said that now the Bangladesh team wants to play on bouncy pitches even at home. He added that the series in which they defeated Afghanistan was played on the fast and bouncy pitches and the heroes of their victory were Ebadot Hossain and Taskin Ahmed. Wasim Jaffer stated that from that point, there is a shift in their mindset and now they don’t depend on spin only for winning matches.

Despite the strides made by Bangladesh’s fast bowlers, Wasim Jaffer expects spinners to dominate the first test, given the spin-friendly conditions at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

With Bangladesh in strong form and buoyed by recent wins, including their historic series victory over Pakistan, India must remain focused and prepared for a competitive battle.
