He said that he used to get shortlisted and reached final stages only to get dropped. He also revealed that he got locked for a role in “Sacred Games” and did costume measurements but then he got dropped. He further added that though he faced challenges, he remained resilient and kept faith.

After “Gully Boy”, work started pouring in but Vijay Varma noticed a pattern in the roles he was offered. He shared that he initially couldn’t envision himself in the role he played in “Darlings”. After that, he found himself cast in a series of roles as very cunning characters. Although he wanted to avoid being typecast, he found it difficult to change his trajectory on his own.

He appreciated the directors who recognized his ability to play a range of roles, such as Sujoy Ghosh who cast him in “Jaane Jaan”, Homi Adajania who brought him into “Murder Mubarak” and Anubhav Sinha who offered him a role in “IC814”. He noted that the film industry operates in unpredictable ways, giving opportunities to actors when they see potential. Vijay stressed that he didn’t break any stereotypes because he did not make it, the industry made it and broke it as well. His journey reflects a combination of persistence, talent and the support of visionary filmmakers who recognized his range as an actor.
