There is no denying the fact that David Warner is one of the most talented and most popular cricketers that Australia has produced but his involvement in the Sandpapergate scandal has certainly affected his image in a negative manner to a great extent.

The Sandpapergate scandal took place in 2018 in Cape Town when Australia was playing a test match against South Africa and after the inquiry, the then Aussie skipper Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft were banned from cricket and Warner has also been handed over a lifetime leadership ban for being a part of this scandal.

Recently, the former Aussie cricketer Simon Katich spoke on Sandpapergate and involvement of the Aussie players in that scandal. He feels that David Warner may have done a lot for the Australian cricket but he may not get “full respect” from the Australian fans because of his involvement in that scandal.

Simon Katich said that many of them were not able to believe what the Australian team resorted to but blaming David Warner completely for the entire incident is wrong. Katich said that he is sure that with time, more and more will be said about the scandal. He added that Warner along with Smith and Bancroft may have taken the complete responsibility but public strongly believes that more cricketers were involved in that incident and not just these three.

While Steve Smith was removed from captaincy and was banned for a year, David Warner was banned for a year and Cameron Bancroft was banned for 9 months.

Simon Katich stated that David Warner didn’t speak anything about the initial apology and just focused on his game and tried to play as good as possible but this would have been tough for him as well. He added that after whatever happened, it was important for Warner to come back and play good cricket which he did.

Do you agree that Simon Katich is right about the full respect comment?
