Dhruv Jurel’s Success Is Not Just About His Struggle But His Mother’s Sacrifice & Father’s Patience
There are many Indian cricketers who have come from a poor family background and achieved success after facing many struggles in life, not just these cricketers but their family members have also faced many difficulties in helping the cricketers make his dream come true.
Dhruv Jurel gets selected in the Indian squad:
Dhruv Jurel, the young Indian cricketer who is going to turn 23 soon has been selected as a backup wicketkeeper in the Indian team which will play the first two test matches against England. Though Dhruv has been performing well at domestic level and in the IPL as well for Rajasthan Royals, still his selection has come as a surprise from many. There are speculations that the selectors have taken this step because of the uncertainty in regard to Ishan Kishan’s availability.
Will Dhruv Jurel make debut in Ind vs Eng?
The chances of Dhruv Jurel making his debut are quite low as KS Bharat and KL Rahul are already in the team but the good thing is that he will get the chance to share the dressing room with some big names of the Indian cricket world such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin, etc.
Dhruv Jurel’s family background:
Dhruv’s father Nem Singh Jurel is a Kargil war veteran and he wanted his son to either join defense forces or get a government job instead of pursuing cricket as his career. When Dhruv was 14 yrs old, he threatened his parents of running away from home as his father refused to buy a bat for him due to monetary constraints. It was the time when Dhruv was thinking of giving up his dream of playing cricket but then his mother made a sacrifice for him, she sold her gold chain for the purpose of buying a bat for her son.
In an interview, Dhruv said that he didn’t understand at that time but when he realized the importance of the sacrifice which was made by his mother, he became more determined for achieving success in his career.
Junior cricket:
Dhruv Jurel continuously obtained top position in the run-scoring charts in Junior cricket in Agra but he decided to come to Noida for better opportunities; however, regular travelling from Agra to Noida was making him physical and mentally tired. Again his mother helped him by making the decision of shifting to Noida with him.
Father facing regular taunts:
Dhruv Jurel got selected in the U-19 World Cup squad as vice-captain and the Indian team ended the tournament as runners-up. However even after three years of the U-19 World Cup, Dhruv Jurel didn’t get picked by any IPL franchise despite the fact that his teammates – Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravi Bishnoi and Priyam Garg got the chance to play in the IPL. Dhruv’s father Nem Singh had to face the taunts of neighbours on a regular basis as they used to tell Nem that he is ruining his son’s life because of cricket.
No negativity:
Dhruv Jurel said that there was no negativity in his house and his father told him that he just needs to do something different from others in order to stand out and wait for his time.
IPL 2022:
Finally the IPL team Rajasthan Royals bought him at the base price of Rs. 20 lakhs in the IPL 2022 but he didn’t get to play even a single game as RR was supporting Riyan Parag. However, things changed after RR lost the finals to Gujarat Titans and Dhruv was told by the management that he would be playing at no. 6 or 7 because there is no space available in the top-order. The Impact player rule was a game changer for Dhruv; he got the opportunities to bat for the team and he justified his worth by playing some good knocks.
The big compliment from his father:
His parents came to watch a match in Jaipur and after Dhruv played a blistering knock, his father said to his mother that her gold chain has been repaid. These words are more than any award for Dhruv and the fact that he managed to earn a reputation of a big hitter despite having Shimron Hetymer and Jason Holder is a big thing.
RR Academy and coaches:
Dhruv Patel is all praises for the training that he got at RR Academy as he said that RR coaches helped him a lot. He said that he used to practice for 5-6 hrs daily and from situation practice to power-hitting, everything had been taken good care of by the coaches.
We wish Dhruv Jurel all the best for his future!
