Indian Adaptations of Korean Movies And Series
K-dramas have become quite popular in recent years. Apart from series, Korean movies are also slowly gaining a following worldwide. Owing to their massive popularity and extremely creative writing and execution, Korean movies and series have also been adapted in India.
Indian Adaptations of Korean Movies And Series:
-
Ek Villain (I Saw The Devil)
Surprising, right? Ek Villain movie stars Riteish Deshmukh, Shraddha Kapoor, and Siddharth Malhotra. Although the filmmakers denied the claim of it being a remake of the Korean movie, a crime drama called I Saw the Devil, the plots of the two movies are strikingly similar.
I Saw the Devil shows an NIS agent who embarks on a mission to take revenge on the psychotic killer who killed his wife. On the contrary, Ek Villain follows a man who had earlier been a hitman but left his job when he met his wife, Aisha. All is going well for the guy until a bad guy ironically enters his life and kills his pregnant wife. All hell breaks loose as the man who left the violent streets returns once again.
-
Dhamaka (The Terror Live)
Kartik Aaryan-starrer Netflix movie Dhamaka is an official adaptation or remake of the Korean movie The Terror Live. Both movies revolve around a primetime news anchor who gets demoted while his personal life is unstable, with his strained relationship with his wife on the verge of divorce.
The anchor finds an opportunity to revive his career when he receives a phone call from an anonymous man who threatens to bomb a crowded bridge acting as a sea link if his demands are unmet. In The Terror Live, Ha Jung Woo plays the role of the news anchor, while in Dhamaka, Kartik Aaryan gives an impressive performance as the news anchor, Arjun Pathak.
-
Kaisi Yeh Yaariaan (Boys Over Flowers)
Kaisi Yeh Yaarian is loosely based on one of the most famous Korean series, Boys over Flowers, which in turn was an adaptation of the Japanese manga of the same name. Kaisi Yeh Yaarian became popular in India. It follows Nandini, a simple girl who has to move to the big city of Mumbai and ends up at an elite college.
The series focuses on college friends as they encounter challenges in friendships, love, relationships, and emotions. The series is available on Jio Cinema, while Boys Over Flowers is available on Netflix.
-
Duranga (Flower of Evil)
Flower of Evil follows the story of a man who had connections to crime in the past but has now concealed his identity from his wife, who is a detective. When a series of murders take place, his wife investigates the case and, in the process, ends up finding out secrets from her husband’s past. An official adaptation of this Korean series is the crime drama Duranga.
Starring Gulshan Devaiah and Dhrasti Dhami, the plot is pretty much the same as the wife tries to find out the reality of her husband’s twisted past. Duranga is a Hindi word that can be translated to “two-coloured,” hinting towards the dual personality of the man who appeared to be the perfect loving husband. The series can be watched on Zee5, while Flower of Evil is available on Netflix and Jio Cinema.
-
Blind (Blind)
Based on the 2011 Korean movie of the same name, the movie features Sonam Kapoor Ahuja as a blind woman who tries to catch a psychotic serial killer through her instincts and experience.
The woman, Gia Singh, is an ex-cop who feels that the killer is trying to make her chase him down. The killer is a sadistic psychopath who loves to torture women. Blind marks Sonam’s first OTT film and is a good watch. It is available at Jio Cinema.
