Sourav Ganguly Again Speaks On Captaincy Row, Says “I Didn’t Remove Virat Kohli From Captaincy”
The former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly has been targeted by the fans of Virat Kohli many times as they feel that it was he who removed Virat Kohli from the ODI captaincy but recently Sourav Ganguly once again spoke in this regard and tried to make things clear.
There was a time when Virat Kohli used to lead team India in all the three formats but he gave up the T20I captaincy as he was not able to handle the workload pressure. After some time, he was replaced by Rohit Sharma not just in T20Is but in ODIs as well which didn’t go well with Kohli and he stated that he wanted to lead India in ODIs and tests but he was removed from the ODI captaincy without getting informed or having a discussion in this regard.
At that time, Sourav Ganguly was the President of the BCCI and he said in an interview that Virat Kohli was asked to reconsider his decision of quitting the T20 captaincy but Virat Kohli contradicted his statement by saying that his decision was welcomed by all and he was never asked to reconsider the decision.
After some time, Virat Kohli gave up his test captaincy too and since then, he is playing as a batter in the team.
Recently, while speaking on a show, Sourav Ganguly said that he has said it many times and he will say it again that he hasn’t removed Virat Kohli from captaincy. He added that Virat was not interested in leading the team in T20Is so after Kohli gave up captaincy, Dada asked Kohli to give up the ODI captaincy as well so that there can be a red ball skipper and a white ball skipper.
Sourav Ganguly further said that he may have contributed in this regard by pushing Rohit Sharma to lead the team as he was not interested in leading the team in all the formats. He added that he was the President of the BCCI and his main job was to work for the overall development of Indian cricket and all other things were a small part of his job.
Currently, Rohit Sharma is the official skipper of the Indian team in all the three formats but he hasn’t played T20I for quite a long time now and Hardik Pandya has led the team in his absence.
What do you think of the captaincy saga? Do let us know.
