Are you looking for meaning in your life? And what exactly does this mean? This concept simply refers to having something in your life that gives you purpose and direction and something you stand for.

And while rather vague, having meaning in life is something only you can decide and figure out as it is deeply personal to each individual.

You can go through life never finding meaning, what you are capable of, or who you are, and not be worse off. But if you are questioning your life and existence and wondering what the point is, then this answer can be both disheartening and encouraging.

Because there is no one meaning to life, it means that this is still within reach, and you can find it, whatever it looks like for you.

This post delves into how you can find meaning in your life.

Be More Present

If you genuinely want to find meaning, you must be more present in your daily life. Life isn’t about the end goal, if there is even an end goal in life. It is about the journey that gets to where you are now, where you want to go, and everything in between. Chances are, if you had asked yourself 10 years ago where you would be today, you could never have predicted exactly what your life would look like, and even if you did, chances are the route wouldn’t have been what you expected. Life is full of twists and turns, so ground yourself in the here and now and appreciate everything you do and go through for what it is and how it can shape you.

Be Kind

Be kind to yourself and others around you. If life has to have meaning to you, you will find this in the connections you make with others, and you need to be more mindful of how you treat those around you and, indeed, yourself.

Creating meaning in life is about how you impact others and the world around you and allow yourself to tackle life. You can’t have a positive impact without treating others or yourself with kindness or respect.

Let Go Of Grudges

If you want your life to be more meaningful and fulfilling, holding grudges will only hold you back. The word holding itself means stuck and stationary, and you cannot make changes if you can’t move forward. By all means, grieve for what you have lost from the actions of others, but holding grudges will only limit your life. So, let go and move on.

Take A Risk

To find meaning in life, you need to experience life. How can you know what it is all about if you aren’t living in life, merely watching from the sidelines? Try something new, do something that scares you; take a job in a new sector, go on a date, try new experiences, because if you don’t, then you won’t be able to explore what the point of anything is and find that meaning you’ve been longing for.

Identify your Priorities

By finding out what means the most to you and what you value in life, you can work towards a better lifestyle by focusing on these aspects. Again, this shouldn’t be dictated by others and should be something you are doing based on your personal preferences. It could be that providing a safe and stable life for your family is your top priority, or that career progression means the most to you right now, or even fighting social injustices in the world, whatever it is, identify it and pursue it. Don’t forget, as you change and grow as a person, your priorities might change, and this is ok; nothing is set in stone.

Do Something You Love

Because if you aren’t enjoying things, then what is the point? You need to have something in your life that you enjoy doing. Find the fun and pinpoint what you want to do, e.g., playing music, dancing, art, helping others, exercising, etc. Do it, enjoy it, and don’t let others make you feel bad for doing things that make you happy.

Set Goals

You cannot control the future or how your life will pan out completely. But you can put some nonnegotiables in place to help you ride the storm, so to speak. Goals are designed to help you achieve the things you want to achieve.

Let’s say you want to buy a house. You know you need to improve your finances and career stability to save up for your deposit and qualify for a mortgage. You can make a goal to own your own house within the next 5 years. But that seems like such a big goal to hit, and it’s so far away, right? What you need to do is to break it down.

Firstly, you need to aim to get your income to a level that will help you boost your chances of getting a mortgage. It could be that you want to be earning $100,000 a year by the end of the following calendar year. Then, you should aim to save each month for the down payment you need. Commit to putting away 20% of your income for this each month with a goal to have saved a set amount by the end of the year. Then, at least one year before you want to put your application in, you need to set a goal of becoming financially healthy. All of these smaller goals will accumulate towards helping you reach your bigger goal. Apply this thinking to anything you do to make things more attainable and easier to achieve.

Pay Attention to Your Supporters

Not everyone will be on your side for the changes you are making in your life. And not everyone will have the same thinking as you. But if people are holding you back or putting barriers in your way, then you need to remove them from your life. Moving forward with finding meaning in life will require you to make some tough decisions, and one of these is assessing who you allow to influence your life. You want people to support you, cheer you on, and enable you to do what you need to do on this journey,
