Sachin Revealed Which Cricketer’s Name He Advised When He Was Offered Captaincy & Why
There is no denying the fact that whenever a discussion regarding the best skippers of the Indian cricket team will take place, the name of MS Dhoni will be among the top ones in the list. MS Dhoni is certainly one of the most successful skippers of all times as it was under his leadership that India won ICC T20 World Cup 2007, ICC ODI World Cup 2011 and ICC Champions Trophy 2013 which made him the only skipper in the world to win all the three ICC trophies.
Recently, the former legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar made an important revelation regarding MS Dhoni during an event organized by Indian tech giant Infosys. Master Blaster disclosed that it was he who advised the selectors to appoint Dhoni as the captain of the squad. Sachin talked about the time when Rahul Dravid was the skipper but he wanted to give up captaincy as he was not enjoying it anymore and the selectors offered captaincy to Sachin Tendulkar.
Little Master said that when they were in England, he was offered captaincy by the selectors but instead of accepting it, he said to selectors that there is a very good leader in the team who is still a junior player and the selectors should observe him closely. Sachin Tendulkar added that he had a lot of conversations with Dhoni, majority of them while fielding on the first slip and he always used to ask about his (Mahi’s) opinion regarding what was going on in the ground. Sachin went on to say that despite the fact that Rahul Dravid was the skipper at that time, he (Sachin) used to ask Dhoni for his feedback and he always got a very calm, balanced and mature answer.
Sachin Tendulkar further says that a good captain is the one who knows how to stay one step ahead of the opposition and he needs to play sensibly and calmly. As per him, proper planning is needed because nothing happens instantly, 10 wickets can’t be taken in 10 balls and he has seen all the qualities which are needed in good captain in MS Dhoni because of which he had recommended his name to the selectors.
MS Dhoni who is also known to be one of the finest finishers of all times was just 26 years old when he was named captain of the team. He is also the second most successful skipper of the IPL as his team Chennai Super Kings has won the tournament four times under his leadership.
Dhoni has represented the country in 90 test matches, 350 ODIs and 98 T20Is in which he has scored 4876 runs, 10773 runs and 1617 runs, respectively.
