Sehwag Revealed He Wished To Retire After Dhoni Dropped Him From Team But Sachin Stopped Him
The former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag had a great cricketing career and he was certainly one of the most destructive batsmen we have ever seen playing cricket. The cricketer who played for Delhi and Haryana in the domestic circuits made his debut in the year 1999 and slowly he became an integral part of the team in all the formats. However, there was a time when the Sultan of Multan even thought of taking retirement from the ODI after he was dropped from the team by the then skipper MS Dhoni.
In a recent interview, Viru paaji stated that he made a comeback in the test team after getting dropped for a year in 2008 and played well but in ODIs, he was not able to perform well in the first four matches so MS Dhoni dropped him from the team. He added that it was then he thought of taking retirement from ODIs and keep on playing the purest form of the game only but the legendary former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar stopped him by saying that this was just a bad phase, he should wait, return home, think properly and then take a decision. Sehwag went on to say that it was good for him that he didn’t take retirement as he played for the country in all the three formats for next 7-8 years and was also a part of the Indian squad which won the 2011 World Cup.
If we talk about that tri-series, in the first four matches, Viru paaji scored 6, 33, 11 and 14. He was once again included in the squad after two matches but he failed to make an impact as he scored only 14 in that match. Sehwag was again dropped from the playing XI and India went on to win Commonwealth Bank tri-series by defeating Australia in the best of the three finals.
When Virender Sehwag was asked about the failure of Virat Kohli and whether he should take a break from cricket, Viru stated that there are two types of players – firstly, Virat is one of those who love challenges and they enjoy in such situations, he lends his ear to all the criticism, scores runs on the field and proves his critics wrong. He added that the second type are the players who are like him, they don’t care about who is criticizing them or what is being said about them because they know what they need to do, go, play and score runs.
Do you agree with Virender Sehwag’s perception about Virat Kohli? Do let us know.
