Yami Gautam Gave A Mouth-Shutting Reply To Anupama Chopra’s Platform For Its Review Of “Dasvi”
The Indian cinema is recovering in a great manner after facing wrath of the COVID-19 pandemic for almost two years and now the moviemakers have also shed their inhibitions of releasing films on digital platforms instead of cinema halls. Recently Abhishek Bachchan, Nimrat Kaur and Yami Gautam starrer “Dasvi” got released on OTT channel and it got mixed reviews from audiences and critics alike.
However, Yami Gautam got angry with the manner in which Anupama Chopra’s Film Companion reviewed the movie and the performances of the actors, especially of Yami. The “Kaabil” actress took to the micro-blogging site Twitter and slammed the entertainment portal in a series of tweet.
She writes that though she takes criticism in a constructive manner, it becomes necessary to speak when a portal tries to pull you down consistently. She also posts a screenshot from the review that is about her performance and which she finds really disrespectful especially when her recent movies include “A Thursday”, “Uri: The Surgical Strike” and “Bala”. Yami also speaks about how it hurts when it takes many years of hard work and determination especially for a self-made actor to prove his/her caliber and some big portals try to demean the actor.
Check out the tweets by Yami Gautam:
Before I say anything else, I’d like to say that I usually take constructive criticism in my stride. But when a certain platform keeps trying to pull you down consistently, I felt it necessary to speak up about it. https://t.co/GGczNekBhP pic.twitter.com/wdBYXyv47V

My recent films & performances include 'A Thursday', 'Bala', 'Uri' etc & yet this is qualified as a 'review' of my work! It's extremely disrespectful!
— Yami Gautam Dhar (@yamigautam) April 7, 2022
It takes years of hard work for anyone & especially a self-made actor like me to keep proving our mettle again & again with every opportunity. This is what it comes down to from certain reputed portals!
— Yami Gautam Dhar (@yamigautam) April 7, 2022
Yami also states that there was a time when she looked up to Film Companion but she doesn’t feel the need to do it anymore and she also requests the portal not to review her performances in the future.
It's heartbreaking since I did look up to @FilmCompanion once upon a time, like many of us, but I don't seek that since long now! I would request you not to 'review' my performance henceforth ! I'll find grace in that & it'll be less painful.

Soon netizens also started reacting and majority was in support of the actress, however Film Companion also responded to Yami Gautam by tweeting, “Dear Yami. We are sorry you feel that way. Please be assured, that there was no disrespect meant. Thank you.”

While some online users feel that Film Companion is always against the self-made actors as they support the products of nepotism, there are many who strongly believe that this all has happened because Yami has not only praised Vivek Agnihotri’s “The Kashmir Files” but also asked people to watch it.
Here are some selected Twitter reactions:

I loved the movie #Dasvi on @netflix UAE. Found the movie heart warming and a real fun ride. Loved Abhishek, Yami and Nimrat in their honest and genuine performances. Special mention for the little dynamite @Chotemiyan29.. Kudos to the team !!

Lol you take this @FilmCompanion seriously! My god that was a revelation, no sane movie goer gives a damn about them and their criticism means something is great in the movie. Its a win-win!

Filmy companion gives totally biased reviews. Third rated movies are glorified but movies like TKF or this won’t have a chance! Not sure what is their problem with self made actors. They just like nepo kids!

They’re doing it because
1. you are married to the guy who made #Uri which acc to them promoted “jingoism”
2. you wear H!nudism on your sleeve, follow all rituals, which acc to them are “regressive”
3. you appreciated and promoted #TheKashmirFiles— NV (@rookie_tweet) April 7, 2022

@ReelReptile what’s your qualification as a film critic? Asking as you liked Jalsa & you are still hung over with that debacle review of Kashmir files. Jalsa was a boring films of recent times, I haven’t seen Dasvi so won’t comment, but your comment for Yami is absolutely rude https://t.co/rvQtApboWq

The filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri also made no delay in lending support to Yami Gautam as he tweeted, “Bravo, @yamigautam for speaking up. You need no certificates for your talent from this vicious mafia led by @anupamachopra”.

Well, critics may play an important role in making an actor understand what he is missing from his work but being rude is certainly not justified.
