“England’s Most Successful Captain,” Twitter Floods With Reactions As Joe Root Quits Captaincy
Some time ago, the Indian cricketer Virat Kohli surprised everyone when he gave up his test captaincy despite the fact that the Indian cricket team had performed pretty well under his leadership. Virat is the most successful test captain of India as the Indian squad has played 60 test matches under his captaincy and tasted victory in 40 of them.
Today the English cricketer Joe Root announced quitting captaincy of the England test team, however cricket lovers and former cricket experts saw that coming as England won only 1 test match in the last 17 test matches that it played under his leadership. The 31 years old cricketer is the most successful English skipper as England has won 27 test matches under his leadership but everything is going against him and his team since the start of the World Test Championship 2021-23 and presently the English squad is at the bottom of the points table.
The bad phase of the English cricket team started with the tour to India where it lost the series and then it lost the series to New Zealand. The nightmare turned worse when it was thrashed by Australia in five test matches and the Aussies won the Ashes by 4-0. The series with West Indies was also quite pathetic for England as it once again faced defeat.
Joe Root was getting criticized a lot for his leadership qualities and he stated in an interview that he got the time to sit and think after the Caribbean tour and he has now taken the decision to step down from the post of captain. He adds that it is certainly the toughest and the most challenging decision that he has taken after talking to his family members and close people and he firmly believes that the timing is absolutely right.
Ben Stokes who is the vice-captain of the team is the first choice for leading the team after Joe Root. As the decision was announced by Joe Root, many former cricketers and cricket fans took to the micro-blogging site Twitter, thanked him and congratulated him for his stint as the captain who led the team for 5 years. Many fans also said that they would surely miss Joe Root as a skipper. Here are some of the selected reactions:

There’s no doubt about it @root66 is a top quality player and human being and role model for up and coming English cricketers but I feel England do need a new captain despite limited choices. Joe lacked a feel for the game and was not willing to take a risk to win a game.

Breaking News! @root66 JOE ROOT resigns as Captain of England @englandcricket saying how much the job has taken its toll on him over the last five years. No obvious successor to pick up the reins.

BREAKING: Joe Root resigns as England cricket captain. Many will be happy about this but I’m not. He was let down badly by his teammates & without his own outstanding batting, we’d have fared far worse. Thanks for all you’ve done @root66 – very sorry it’s ended like this. pic.twitter.com/smBO0g0fFb

All good things must come to an end.
It has been a privilege and an honour to have worked with @root66 since he was appointed England Test Captain back in February 2017. He is an incredible human & will continue to do what is best for the game.
It has been a pleasure, Rooty! pic.twitter.com/17yEuUDniq
