Dhoni Revealed Why He Became Captain In 2007 Even When There Were Senior Players Like Sehwag & Yuvi

2007 was not a good year for the Indian cricket team but appointment of MS Dhoni as the captain brought a turnaround in the team’s fortune.

Dhoni is the most successful Indian captain as under his leadership, the Indian team has won all the three ICC trophies. The legendary cricketer has turned 37 today and his fans are celebrating the moment in a grand manner.

But have you ever thought as to why Dhoni was selected as the captain of the team despite the fact that there were senior players such as Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir in the team?

Dhoni revealed the reason behind his selection as the captain and according to him, it must have been his honesty and his ability to read the game that matter a lot. Apart from this, he was never afraid of telling his opinion whenever a senior player asks for suggestion.

Here’s what he told The Print,

“Maybe it was the honesty that I had, and my ability to read the game. Reading the game is very important, and even though I was one of the youngest in the team at that point of time, when asked about my views by a senior player, I was not afraid or hesitant to share my feelings about the game.”

Well, making Dhoni the skipper was indeed a praiseworthy decision and he proved that he truly deserved it. What do you say?
