BCCI Announces World Cup Squad, KL Rahul In, Sanju Samson Doesn’t Find A Place
The Indian cricket team is currently playing its second ODI match in the Asia Cup 2023 against Nepal at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium at Kandy and it shouldn’t be a problem for the Indian side to defeat the Nepal squad which is relatively weaker than team India.
As per the reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also finalised the 15-member squad for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 which is going to be played in India from 5 October. As earlier said, the team is quite similar to the squad which was selected for the Asia Cup 2023. As KL Rahul is set to return, the selectors have excluded Sanju Samson who was the only reserve player in the Asia Cup team. Tilak Varma and Prasidh Krishna have also failed in finding a place in the Indian squad for the ODI World Cup.
Rohit Sharma will be leading the team and most probably, Shubman Gill will be his opening partner. Virat Kohli will be batting at his usual position with Shreyas Iyer coming at number 4. KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur will form the middle order. The Indian pace battery will consist of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav is the only specialist spinner who has been preferred by the selectors over Yuzvendra Chahal.
The chief selector Ajit Agarkar had a meeting with Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid after the India-Pakistan match which got washed out due to rain on 2 September 2023 and they didn’t wait for the deadline of 5 September as KL Rahul was given green signal by the medical experts of National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru.
