Senior Journalist Calls Malpua “India’s Worst Sweet”, Starts A Debate On Twitter
India is a land of unity in diversity and it’s not just our cultures and traditions differ from state to state but our eating habits and favourite food dishes also differ from one state to another. While chole bhature is the favourite snack in Delhi, in Uttar Pradesh it is kachori with aloo ki sabji while in southern India, it is dosa, idli or utappam, etc. and in the same manner, our favourite sweet dishes are also different.
If you are from these Indian states – West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar and Rajasthan, then you must have heard about a sweet dish called Malpua which is mostly served with rabri or dipped in honey or sugar syrup.
If you haven’t heard about malpua, let us tell you that it is a type of pancake which is made with wheat flour, sugar or jaggery, cardamom power and various other ingredients can also be added such as khoya, semolina, yogurt, coconut and bananas.
Recently the micro-blogging site, Twitter became a battlefield when a journalist called malpua the worst sweet dish ever. The name of the journalist is Shiv Aroor and he tweeted, “It’s time to declare that India’s worst sweet is Malpua”.

Soon Twitterati reacted, while some asked him to try somewhere else or try with rabri, there were few who got offended and were a little harsh on him for his statement on malpua. Check out some selected reactions:

If U have Malpua in Kashi, you will immediately change your opinion. It’s juicy but still dry from outside. I have not seen such Malpua anywhere else in India. Malpua and Rabdi is one of the most popular delicacies served at wedding parties. Discard ur bias, sir.

You need better chef. Malpua is better than Jalebi and that’s the highest compliment I’d offer to any delicacy

Looks like someone chose violence this afternoon. Malpua is fine, I find Mysore Pak super overrated. And also Imarti. Oddly enough I'm a fan of Soan Papdi. https://t.co/j8mz5qyKPJ
