Asian Games-Bound Cricketer Vipraj Nigam Faces S*xual Assault Allegation

Young Indian cricketer, Vipraj Nigam is in the spotlight ahead of a possible India debut against Japan on Tuesday but a legal case from 2025 has also emerged involving the young cricketer.

Vipraj Nigam, who could make his international debut in the historic one-off T20I, has been accused in a case involving alleged s*xual assault on the pretext of marriage and physical abuse at a hotel in Noida in July 2025.

According to a leading publication, the woman who made the allegations, a Hyderabad-based resident, reportedly sat outside Vipraj Nigam’s house for several hours on Sunday. She said she wanted to meet the cricketer, who is currently in Japan. The report said Vipraj Nigam’s father spoke to the woman over the phone and assured her that the matter would be discussed after a week. The woman reportedly said she did not want to create a dispute and only wanted to speak with Vipraj Nigam.

Vipraj Nigam received his maiden India call-up as a replacement for injured spinner Varun Chakaravarthy. He has also been included in India’s squad for the 2026 Asian Games.

Both Vipraj Nigam and the woman have filed complaints against each other. On November 8, 2025, Vipraj Nigam filed a complaint at Barabanki Kotwali against the woman. He alleged that she had been contacting him from different mobile numbers and threatening to falsely implicate him in a case.

The woman later filed a complaint against Vipraj Nigam at the Expressway Police Station in Gautam Buddha Nagar, accusing him of s*xual exploitation. According to her complaint, the two met through social media in May 2025. She alleged that Vipraj Nigam promised to marry her and later took her to a hotel in Noida on July 29, 2025, where she accused him of r@pe and physical ass@ult. A case based on her complaint was registered on December 16, 2025.

Vipraj Nigam is a spin bowler who also bats in the lower-middle order. The 22-year-old has played six First-Class matches for Uttar Pradesh. He has also been a regular for Delhi Capitals, featuring in 19 matches and taking 13 wickets at an average of 36.07.

The allegations have been levelled from both the sides and the truth will come out only after investigation and legal proceedings get completed.
