Shah Rukh Khan Rejected The Role Of Raj In Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge Four Times
Bollywood is one of the biggest movie industries of the world as every year, 200 movies are made and released on box-office. While some movies are loved by audiences, many get rejected and very few make it to the list of classics.
1995 released Aditya Chopra directed “Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge” which starred Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the lead roles is certainly one of the classics of the Hindi film industry. This movie was a huge hit and it turned out be a milestone in the careers of SRK and Kajol. Shah Rukh’s journey as the King of Romance started from this flick and audiences loved the on-screen pairing of SRK and Kajol. Later on, Shah Rukh and Kajol worked in many movies together and they are still one of the most loved on-screen pairs of Bollywood.
However, you will be surprised to know that Shah Rukh Khan rejected the role in “Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge” four times as he was doubtful of its success. In the 1990s, King Khan was getting praised for his negative roles in the films such as “Baazigar”, “Darr”, etc. and he was not in the mood of working in a romantic movie. After SRK denied doing the role, Aditya Chopra was thinking of signing Saif Ali Khan for the male lead but then Yash Chopra decided to have a word with SRK.
Yash Chopra not only convinced Shah Rukh to do the lead role in “Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge” but he also gave him a piece of advice which paved the path for him to become the King of Romance. Yash Chopra told SRK to take up romantic roles if he wants to stay in industry for a longer period. Fortunately, the “Fan” star followed the golden advice of the legendary filmmaker and the rest is history.
Since then, Shah Rukh and Yash Raj banner have given us many amazing movies and every SRK fan should be thankful to the legendary Yash Chopra who gave a great advice to SRK at that time otherwise this side of SRK would have remained unseen and the industry would have been deprived of seeing him as nailing the romance genre which nobody can do like him.
SRK’s last release was “Zero” in which he worked with Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma. The movie was directed by Aanand L Rai and it bombed at the box-office. Shah Rukh hasn’t announced any project since then but he will be doing a cameo in Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer “Brahmastra”.
