Twitter Invented Hindi Word For Social Distancing – Tan Doori. Even Paresh Rawal Reacted
With the advent of the social media networks, the Indians have got a pretty good platform to showcase their creativity and now they are leaving no chance of proving how witty, creative and fun-loving they can be, even in the times of crisis.
The whole world is fighting a big battle against COVID-19 and because of this lethal virus, many countries of the world are under lockdown. India is also under 21 days lockdown from 25th March and since then, many people are busy bringing out the creative side of their personality to the front.
The governments all over the world are promoting social distancing as the COVID-19 virus is contagious in nature and interestingly, the Indian Twitterati has already come up with a Hindi word which can be used for social distancing. Yes, you read it right and to your utter amazement, the Hindi word for social distancing is “Tan-doori”. Hilarious yet appropriate, doesn’t it?
Here the meaning of ‘tan’ is body and ‘doori’ is used for distance.
Tandoori is a word used with the dishes (for example, tandoori chicken) which are cooked in a cylindrical clay oven called tandoor. The Indian Twitterati including actor Paresh Rawal and senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai also tweeted about this new discovery.
Paresh Rawal wrote,
“Finally got the Hindi name of social distancing.
TAN DOORI”
Finally got the Hindi name of social distancing.
TAN DOORI

While Rajdeep Sardesai’s tweet read,
“The remarkable humour and creativity of Indians even in tough times is a stand out. So what’s Hindi word for ‘social distancing’ folks? Ans: TAN-DOORI! Smiling face with smiling eyes (by the way, our leaders do need to find a way to create a Hindi/regional adaptation to all corona related angrezi words)”

Maintaining social distancing is one of the best ways to save yourself from coronavirus which has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation and has already taken lives of more than 30K people. As far as India is concerned, the number of lives lost is 25 while the number of infected cases is going to touch 1000 soon.
Maintain social distancing, stay indoors, wash hands regularly and keep safe!
